Not a big deal but intersting. And a little nit picky I guess.

Paramount reportedly lying about transformers age extinction box office results.

It's being stated that Paramount is lying about the box office results for Transformers: Age Of Extinction.

According to Deadline, Transformers 4 didn't make it to the $100 million mark, but just short at around $97 million.

Industry insiders are stating that Paramount is intentionally fudging the numbers.

“They’re lying,” said one distribution head at a major studio.

Said another, “I don’t get get it. Is it just arrogance? What is the point of inflating your box office numbers? So they can claim the first $100M movie opening of the year? Oh please, who cares? It’s a great opening anyway.”

One distribution executive put it this way, “Looking at Rentrak, at this time the average for the three-days is $22.964M, representing a total gross for three days of $97.76M. Rentrak collected 97% of the grosses for the three days. In my humble opinion, it would be impossible for $100M to be reported.”

It's further suggested that Paramount stretched the numbers to avoid layoffs at the company, as apparently if T4 didn't gross $100 million in its opening, employees were to be let go.

Paramount, however, has replied stating their numbers are correct.

“We reported our number based on the estimates we received from the theaters this morning. This is our final number,” said a Paramount spokeswoman. $100.038M? “Yes.”

The $97 million would still give Transformers: Age Of Extinction the best opening of the year, surpassing April's Captain America 2 with $95 million.

They way the box office numbers have been this year, I am inclined to believe the 97M figure.

I honestly don't understand the point in their lying like that if it didn't make the amount it was supposed to and workers would be laid off or whatever they said would happen lying about it wouldn't make the problem go away. Such goofiness lol

The only website reporting these numbers is Deadline. Everyone else is just re-posting their accusations for a headline.

Plus, wasn't it proven by Nikki Finke that this entire situation was just a way for a few people to get back at Michael Bay?

This was posted before other number tracking sites agreed with paramount. Most likely these company execs at the other studio that are complaining have sour grapes because their movies hadn't done as well or at least not as fast. It doesn't even seem like paramount even rounded up because the tracking company they are sighting admits they don't have all the numbers, they say 97% and at that they report about 97.7 million that other 3% could have put it to the 100 million. That complaining exec even sites it as his opinion not fact. Not only that put the cited numbers company numbers could be off, maybe it was less then 97% reporting or they themselves screwed the numbers up

It wasn't really proven wrong, but she does dispute Deadline's story on her website. The link is posted below:

To me it sounds like a bogus story. There were no official quotes or names of people stating Paramount lied...just "a production studio executive..."

In the original article it states one "executive" was following the reporting site called rentrak.com and didn't see based on the estimates reported there how AoE could reach 100M. However when actual numbers were reported on Monday afternoon both rentrak.com and boxofficemojo.com both agreed with one another that AoE was just over the 100M mark.

Something fishy going on. Where there's smoke, there's fire. Trust me, nobody cares to make up a story about a movie making $97M instead of $100M to spite McBay who will care less. But the studio had A LOT of press to gain by making the $100M marker, which they just happened to barely cross by the smallest of margins. Just look at the front page of this forum.

I can tell you very simply and logically which side has incentive to lie.

Actually, that's not true. If you rub two sticks together, you're probably going to see smoke before the first spark.

Not to mention when you microwave your food.
