To me, it seems as if DOTM has very strong ties to the first Transformers film. Did anyone else feel the same way? Here are some of the similarities I noticed. Just to be clear, I don't think this is a bad thing, but it is a bit fun to think about.

    • Megatron's Being Defrosted and Sentinel's Rampage: The scene in DOTM in which Sentinel goes on a rampage after revealing his defection reminds me of the scene in which Megatron was defrosted in the first film. Both scenes involve the characters going on a destructive rampage in a closed military space and harming military personnel in the process. Also, both scenes involve each character proclaiming their identity as a means of explaining their status. When Megatron says "I am...Megatron!" and then proceeds to attack the little Humans, it's as if he's saying, "You've been taking me lightly. I'm a big deal and should be feared and respected." Likewise, when Sentinel goes through his rampage in the military hanger, he says "I am a Prime. I do not take orders from you," he sends the same message (declaring that he's a big deal and should be feared and respected). Both scenes are also serve as the introduction of their respective villains (even though Sentinel was revealed earlier in the film, he's first introduced as the villain in the rampage-scene).
    • Highway Sequences: The highway sequence in DOTM reminded me of the highway sequence in T1, for obvious reasons. I think the highway chase in T1 inspired the filmmakers to do the one in DOTM, but bigger and better.
    • William Lennox Attacking Decepticons: In DOTM, Lennox drops down via parachute and slides on the ground as he shoots at Shockwave. The act of him sliding on the ground as he shoots at Shockwave reminds me of when he attacks Blackout; he rides a motorcycle and then jumps off, sliding on the ground as he shoots at Blackout.
    • Setting of Last Battle: I think the filmmakers purposely chose a city as the location of the final battle in DOTM in order to allude that of the first film.

Did you guys see any similarities?

Now that mention it, I can see the similarities. But I don't recall Lenox being the one who falls on Shockwave with the parachute. I believe it was the black soilder(not being racist) who said "I'll find my own ride home sir. Other than that I can really see the similarities now.

I'm glad the movie was based in the city. TF2 got boring because it was out in the middle of nowhere.

I doubt it. Most likely it was because giant robots in cities is cooler than in a desert.

Sam is stuck with a crappy car until Bumblebee turns up. Granted in TF1 he was the crappy car, it's still a neat little thingum.

Definitely. While I appreciate Bay's attempt to spice things up with different locales (desert, forest, and nighttime fight) in ROTF, the city setting does these robots the most justice by far.

I completely understand although the forest fight in rotf was prob the best fight scene/sequence in all three movies IMO

Yeah. It showed the scale really well too since it was just one little human running around in a forest with giant trees and robots.

The last one was chosen as a city because in ROTF when they fought in Egypt it was to far from civilization. there wasnt a lot of people there so it didnt have a dangerous feel to it.

In the city however everyone knows that there are thousands or even millions of people there. with people dying everywhere you would feel the danger present inside the film.

What would you think if the final battle took place in the suburbs?

I think TF1 and DOTM are more linked than ROTF, the only thing that ties in the second was the matrix. But the plan and agreement megatron and sentinel put together, how megatron was frozen which he was supposed to meet sentinel. It does seem TF1 and DOTM have the greater role for the trilogy.

I think the city battle was just chosen because it's a lot cooler and there's more stuff to blow up. In ROTF, it seemed like they were shooting at nothing and barely anything got destroyed until Prime was resurrected. I am surprised some of you are complaining about the desert battle. 75% of the battles in every Transformers series took place in a desert-like locale.

ROTF could have been so much better with the whole Desert Battle but it just wasnt the battle many of us expected :(

But DOTM had the big mistake of not having a construction yard battle with Prime, Megatron, and Sentinel in a style similar to the Forest Battle. Nitpicks.

Yep it really showed how Sam was in danger cos he was on his own (apart from prime) not only this but it was the longest fight scene with optimus and megatron (ok they weren't fighting constantly) but it was about 3 mins of full on action and we haven't gotten the same in any other TF film cos TF1 fight with megs and op was split up with the defeat of blackout plus optimus was terrible at fighting in this scene then in dotm op and sp didn't last long b4 Meggs came then op killed him straight away

Soo IMO forest fight was the best
