Happy Holidays Transformer fans! I have a question about painting Shapeways pieces for the experts in this field. I bought the two pieces shown below from a Shapeways creator named SteamShield; they allow CW Brawl to combine with the Fansproject Colossus set. I wanted to paint them olive green like CW Brawl, and I messaged him about it.

He recommended I use the Processed White plastic and spray it with my color of choice, then coat it with a thick layer of primer and sand it to create a smooth finish. I've never done this sort of thing with Shapeways parts before, so I was wondering what you guys recommended. Any brands of paint that are easy for beginners to apply? What kind of primer should I use? Thanks in advance!

Thanks! That's helpful! I saw a TFW post about Shapeways parts, and someone recommended these Gundam paint pens. I don't think I need anything like that since I'm not doing any fine detail.

Anything I have ever painted from Shapeways I have had to put a layer of Mr. Surfacer on it first. That printed material is so absorbent, and by the nature of it it can not be sanded smooth, that it needs the in-between step of a filler to make it not look awful.

Thanks for the info! I found some Mr. Surfacer on Amazon, but I might check my local Hobby Lobby first.

Hobby Lobby probably doesn't carry it. I have never seen them carry import product like that.
I think Testors also makes a filler/smoother, so they may have that.

Thanks! Good to know! I read online that Mr. Surfacer is probably the beat thing on the market, so I might have to spring for that.
