For those interested, the current issue of Cinefex covers the VFX of Pacific Rim, Elysium and World War Z.
You know, rewatching the first trailer, I'm reminded of my very first viewpoint on this film in that Pacific Rim was going to be a much darker and grimmer experience than it actually was. Huh. Your move, Precursors.
I remember Newt saying the Precursors waited it out, and he would know firsthand since he's the one who Drifted with a Kaiju. I had that feeling too! Weird.
Currently watching the movie for a third time. Personally, I think this movie gets better and better each and every time I watch it. When Knifehead was doing it's thing to Gipsy, I really felt bad for the Jaeger on a very human level, something I didn't feel for it in my last rewatch. And the scene where it collapses on the shores of the beach, that metal groaning sound really felt and sounded like a humanistic sound, as if the Jaeger was indeed alive and in pain/dieing.
I agree; that scene of poor Gipsy collapsing certainly symbolised the death of an era, the first Jaeger to ever fall to a Kaiju and the damning horror that the Jaegers, these god-like pinnacles of human technology, are not invincible. It was quite painful to watch the poor thing and its pilots suffering under Knifehead's brutality.
Uh, those are actually not bad. Since you put NSFW I thought it was one of those cute curvy anime girls being attacked by Kaijus. trust me, they are out there! XD
Pacific Rim: The Video Game Walkthrough - Trespasser Gameplay (DLC) - YouTube Pacific Rim: The Video Game Walkthrough - Mutavore Gameplay (DLC) - YouTube Gameplay of Trespasser and Mutavore, with guest appearance from Surprise Cherno Alpha. Mutavore's a goddamn Kaiju ninja.
I was excited about that game until i found out you can't even customize the colors of the kaiju. Only the Jaegars.
Has anyone noticed that Gipsy and Cherno have "roars"? When Gipsy first pops up to confront Knifehead, you can hear a loud horn blast, like it's a brass instrument blaring, and you hear it again when it raises both fists and clobbers Knifehead's noggin (What's really cool is that Del Toro explained that there was no soundtrack playing until Yancy died, so it wasn't some kind of musical sting). Anywho, it's heard again when Gipsy is getting ready to confront Otachi. You can see that she reacts to that same sound we heard earlier, turning her attention away from Newt to the Jaeger. And when Cherno Alpha barrels down toward Otachi, you can hear a similar horn blast, but it sounds a bit more "clunky". And you hear it again when it starts slamming its fists together. Gipsy has more of a "BWAAAAAAA!" sound. And Cherno makes a "BWOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRR" sound.
Oh yeah, Gipsy and Cherno have some sweet vocals, particularly with how, as you mention, they contrast; Gipsy is more high-pitched, Cherno is deep and rumbling. It's pretty awesome
It finally came out on PSN a few weeks ago. Check free demo before you start sinking money into it. Over $100 worth of DLC, micro-transactions for upgrades.
Out of curiosity, but does the PSN version allow you to play custom music? It would be cool to actually play songs from the movie while fighting.
Nope. Would be pretty awesome though, since the music in the game is supremely boring. On the topic of the game, I had an idea for a really amazing Pacific Rim game. Revenge of the Fallen. Seriously, free-roam through a large map with a Kaiju or two to take care of. And then having the current game as a mini-game version or so, and also keeping the custom Jaeger feature. And also have interactive items, like anything bigger than a bus but smaller than a building can be picked up, and you could recreate the BOATSWORD scene. And keeping the dynamic attacks. Combos, special attacks, etc. Basically the attacks and customization of the current game put into Revenge of the Fallen format. It would be a lot less boring, too. It could also have cutscenes. And start before the events of the movie so it isn't that short.
