"Humanoid' is hardly unique to Gipsy and Striker, though. And they're not really slim, and even if they are, that is again not a trait monopolized by those two. They had very heroic proportions, these don't. In fact, most of these Jaegers don't match Gipsy or Striker, who both have small, sunken-in heads, broad chests, and sleak legs. I would think if they wanted to copy the success of Gipsy and Striker, which is pointless because the Jaegers weren't truely remarkable it was their pilots, they'd all have unique proportions and designs but follow similar aesthetics to Gipsy and Striker with curved, heavy armour with plate-like sections. Or literally mass-produce them. Because right now, those Jaegers don't look at all like attempts to replicate the two hero Jaegers. They just look like entirely unremarkable robot people.
Such hyperbole. The all look human-sized due to the glossy finish and manner of enframing in this in-universe advertisement. It's designed to recruit pilots - not scare them off. We'll see how their true proportions and shapes translate truly imposing in the proper movie itself. The whole 'success factor based upon visual design of the jaegers' is kind of BS too. The accelerated demise of Typhoon and Cherno was for a large part, due to the exact timing of the Kaiju learning about the control pod being the jaegers' weakspot.
No, not really. I mean you can say that, but it doesn't actually make it true. ??? So, then, the Robot Damashiis are't accurate then? I don't see how glossy finish translates to "none of the designs have any sort of defining characteristic." So if you applied a glossy finish to Cherno or Crimson, would they lose the giant reactor and three arms respectively? I don't see how minor proportional tweaks and a finish alter the fact that none of the designs branch out into any sort of distinct silhouette. At most some of them have some little things on their backs. This was also on top of those two Kaiju being explicitly designed to take on those two Jaegers.
The basic humanoid frame and aesthetics might be easier and faster to produce than the unique models of the earlier Jaegers. It's disappointing, but it is a fairly reasonable explanation.
I'm just saying the style of presentation takes away from the true size they're supposed to be. I'm sure they'll look weathered in the actual movie with the type of shot framing to emphasize their size and proportion. As nice as those Bandai toys look, they don't seem intend to replicate this cinematic effect. Which would make the inreased uniformity amongst these new jaegers a strength because that'll keep the odds slim that the Kaiju will be able to assign a specific Kaiju fighter to a specific jaeger.
Except I'm talking about the actual designs and how uninteresting they are. I couldn't really describe them in detail unlike the previous Jaegers, who all ahve very distinct, characterful designs. These new Jaegers are all very unremarkable, and being relaistically rendered isn't really going to change that. Unless they're totally overhauled during post production. Or, because they're all the same, the Kaiju creators only have to design one Kaiju variant and mass-produce it to counter them all. That's incredibly redundant. The Kaiju could create monsters to specifically target certain Jaegers, so we're going to counter that by making all the Jaegers so similar the Kaiju can now easily keep up with the variants.
Nope. Just because the jaegers look more similar now, doesn't mean they don't have very distinct fighting qualities. The effect of the similar look is something to keep the Kaiju guessing - then catch them off guard when they were expecting the same kind of jaeger.
Yeah you have a point there; Leatherback was created specifically to counter the newer Jaegers and Otachi was made due to no Jaeger being able to go air-born. Making all the Jaegers so similar is a huge drawback.
So that asks the question. How did the aliens in the other dimension know what was happening on Earth? How did they know there were Jaegers and how they were evolving? Were the kaiju transmitting back through the portal on what was happening? There was an alien spy on Earth sending back messages? "Well guys, you failed again. Send another. BTW, they have a robot with a mega kill saw so make a monster that can handle that"
I kind of thought those questions were answered. The Kaiju were hooked up to a hivemind. It wasn't outright stated but it's implied that they could see everything the Kaiju saw on Earth through the hivemind. Maybe they could be more direct about it in the sequel, but that's what I took from the whole hivemind reveal.
Good points. Maybe I just forgot about the hive mind thing because I kinda tuned out the annoying parts with the two bickering scientists in the first film.
Pacific Rim: Uprising Star John Boyega on Jaeger 'Upgrades' and 'Different Way' to Fighting Kaiju - IGN Either Boyega got the Raleigh mixed up with Chuck or something happened offscreen after the first movie Spoiler and Raleigh died.
I'd be OK with that because Spoiler Raleigh's escape pod might not have been a sufficient means of protection from the nuclear blast - so yeah, he might have gotten nuke cancer and simply died
The release date has been delayed by a month. Probably for the better imho, as I think Robin Hood and Ready Player One will pose less competition than Black Panther. Honestly, I wasn't even aware of the Robin Hood movie till I read about the delay.
I'm in favor of this move as well. And may I say thank GOD we're FINALLY getting another Robin Hood reboot (it's been too damn long).
Maybe John didn't even watch the first movie? Either way, he should. Again. That's a big screw up to make.
