not just that but plastics formulations
That as well. Wei Jiang has made some physically solid ass figures whose quality are reminiscent of Hasbro's work in the mid 2000's.
Back in the day when you got pins, rubber wheels, chromed bits, and high quality paint apps on almost every figure?
This might be a little before then, but THIS was a frickin kid's toy and cost around 10 bucks if memory serves. Granted, it had it's issues and inflation happens and whatnot, but it's clear that some aspects of quality have gone out the door since then. Now a days you'd never find a delux class that looks like this.
Design-wise we are light years ahead of this thing though.
Engineering and the amount of sculpted details also have gone through the roof comparing to what we had before. You can tell by checking out some of custom painted SS figures. The details on them are exceptional, they just need some paint.
Oh for sure. My intent was to emphasize the effort that went into the appearance and certain quality aspects of the figure (the rubber tires, high quality paint apps, etc), not the figure itself.
Couldn't agree more with you. Engineering isn't even comparable. Just a shame that so much of that sculpted detail is lost due to the lack of paint apps on the figures.
I think the vehicle modes used to be of higher quality for sure. Robot modes were an afterthought for many years, probably due to the limitations in time and engineering. But yeah there were some things that used to be standard that you don’t always find anymore. I’m just a little tired of the “older toys are always better!” argument that’s meant to shit on everything newer. I think we are in agreement.
The old toys always struck me as a vehicle that could turn into a robot.
These days we get robots that can turn into vehicles.
So basically the starting point in the design and engineering process has shifted.
Back in the day you could flip out a panel or the arms and pretend you had a flying car or something.
Today if you open up a panel or try to do something similar, the entire vehicle loses its structure.
On the plus side, that makes the current bots a lot more posable and dynamic.
Yeah I’d agree with that too. And I’m OK with the shift. They’ve had realistic alt modes my entire life so shifting the focus a bit is OK, especially since the bot designs I like are quite complex and hard to get right.
Agree on all three points. Figures have developed quite a bit and for the better imo. Just miss some of the aspects of pervious figures.
Sooooo true haha. Used to do that all the time with childhood buddies.
Reminds me of a post someone did on fb saying your not a real transformers fan if you didn’t own a G1 or dialclone toy; and that those were better than anything we have today
I thought that was a satire post.
So is this thing getting reissued/re-koed by someone?
Idk if it has been done or not but if there is a link to someone doing a mod to fit the leafage head in transformation would you guys be able to provide it? If not that’s fine.
You can search for posts by savio-prime in this thread. He's the one that did the mod.
Ok thank you
It’s actually pretty easy, you detach the arms remove the plate the original head sits on and replace it with the plate given and boom I think it’s like two screws
I was bored. I bet a couple of these will look familiar from the forums haha.
