It looks like Primes back kibble will be able to collapse down on its self hopefully enough so it doesn't look so ugly

I like it, but to me it looks more like a very kibbly Gundam than a movie-verse Transformer due to the proportions.

As others have said- there's no way to tell how good the character will look on screen from the toy.

    So, summary of the thread:

Design direction might actually be really fucking awesome (it's a bit more put together, less piecemeal, and that may look amazing on screen).

Toy is.....adequate. Final conclusion to be based on actual on-screen appearance.

    Yes?

Personally, I think the toy looks freaking awesome without knowing what the new Optimus looks like.

Some think it looks like his Protoform with some samurai bits stuck on it.

I'd throw in a might not win people over who didn't like the movie look before, but yea it comes down to that. With the way Hasbro has been hit or miss with some elements of the toys in the past few years I do feel like people have a good reason to wonder how the toy and the CGI model in the film will compare.

He change his vehicle mode to a bigger one, same thing happened in Prime. I only hope this time he won't be as bulky as in Prime.

If OP is gonna look anything close to this....it's gonna take some getting use to. The most telling thing about him is the way he kinda looks like a samurai. I honestly hope that just because the final battle will be in Hong Kong doesn't mean the TFs gotta resemble some chinese warriors(I can see how Bees gonna look now).

Also, this would be the first OP to officially not have his chest made out of the truck windshields, or just not even have a "box chest" like every other iteration of him. Guess when Bay said "redesign", he frickin' meant it.

It's not bad, but it just isn't Optimus. It looks more grandiose, like some kind of anointed knight, sourcerer or king, imbued with some mythical intergalactic power. More like something I'd expect from a character like Vector Prime, or even Alpha Trion.

Also, I don't like the samurai reference. Optimus should appear humanoid, but otherwise neutral in terms of cultural references. Yes, I know, he has always had a samurai armor inspired face plate. But this is too much.

I pretty much got used to it after staring at that horrible toy for two hours combined, but yea same with my pagani sketch... I want to see the real thing due to creative liberties taken on both.

    Can't wait

I'll wait until I see his CGI self in full glory before I start judging.

Same here. The new figure is like the original Leader figure from '07: it's based on a preliminary design and hasn't had enough time to be refined. I imagine that the TF5 Leader will be the new ROTF/DOTM Leader Prime.

I don't need to see the CGI to say something about the new design aesthetics, which are obvious and clear on this toy.

So, this new design aesthetic looks more like a robotic version of historical human Roman Empire warrior armor ; and I'm not really a fan of it.

    So... NAY.

Indeed. I'm sure the CG model will be amazing, but the toy just doesn't look like it will be fun at all.

The best thing about it is the vehicle mode. That truck is so wicked with it's flame deco and this is the first time i've ever liked chrome on a Transformers, and i usually despise chrome on my toys.

Although I don't like the toy design that much (except for the head) look at those paint apps and the chrome. This gives me hope for the paint detailing in the AOE line.

Considering that its just a toy, and it seems like they make a dozen Optimus toys per movie, I think I'd have to see the finished product before deciding.

If this new toy is as "accurate" as the DOTM voyager, I dont think we have much to worry about.
