...for part of Age of Extinction. We know that at some point in the movie, perhaps the beginning, Optimus will be an old, rusty Marmon '97 cab-over semi truck, which implies that the corresponding robot-mode - if its shown on film - will be distinct from any one we've seen so far in the films.

We also know that at some point he'll take on a new vehicle-mode, a custom built Western Star semi truck, and will have a new, corresponding robot-mode.

However, based on the following screen-captures taken from the first trailer for Age of Extinction, it appears that he'll have his old robot-mode for part of the movie. What do you think is the explanation for this? Do you think Transformers can use old robot/ vehicle modes based on memory?

That is his robot mode after the he takes the form of the beat up truck. He doesn't change much other than his chest. The toy reflects this...this thread is kind of pointless :/

According to the toy, his entire chest piece is different. We still don't know how that will translate to film, though.

    This ^

Kind of being discussed a lot, it was originally thought he just had an older beat-up version of his DOTM form however it turns out this robot mode fits with the G1 style truck alt-mode he has.

That is his Marmon 97 cab robot mode lol. They reused his past trilogy robot mode, changed a few parts around, stuck the Marmon front end on his chest and called it a day.

If this robot-mode is that or his Marmon '97 vehicle mode, he should be shorter; the robots are designed such that their vehicle modes are large enough to justify their size in their robot modes. He looks no smaller than in previous films; ILM cheated. Shame.
