    Provocative title, no?

Now, hear me out before you start ranting and raving...

Every couple of years or so, we get a new Transformers line.

Generally, this means we'll end up with a new Starscream, Megatron and Optimus Prime.

Starscream and Megatron have the decency to look different every time, whether they be chicken-legged F-22s, or double rotored helicopters, or even a Cybertronian racer. Not only that, but their colour schemes change. It's new, it's refreshing.

    Then we get Optimus Prime.

And every bloody line, he's the same.

He's a blue and red truck, with windows on his chest and wheels on his hips and legs.

    Every. Single. Time.

The only thing that differs is the artistic interpretation, but in the greater scheme of things, he looks the same.

It's so... boring. I don't want to buy any other Optimus Prime toys, because they're so samey, but there they are! Clogging up two-packs with other toys I want to get, or just saturating the shelves...

And the worse thing is the amount of praise they receive! An Optimus Prime toy will almost always receive a disproportionate amount of "ZOMG! Teh AWESOME SEX" than any other figure, regardless of their individual merits.

So, who else here is sick of seeing the same Optimus Prime over and over again? Who wants a change?

And no, Optimus Primal doesn't count.

EDIT: As some have called me out... Very nearly almost. Every. Single. Time.

Things like this wouldn't happen if Sentinel Prime were the Primer Prime!

I loves me some Optimus. I find that the toys are usually pretty damn good regardless of the recycled design elements.

If you want somewhat different takes, how about Armada, Machine Wars, and Alternators Prime? The "super modes" for Energon and RiD Prime are pretty unique as well, and G2 Laser and Hero Prime, while still trucks with red in the color scheme, took some pretty big liberties. They haven't *all* been exactly the same.

You know Megs is only constantly reinvented because they can't stick to the original alt mode right? Also, while I agree they do create more different looks for Starscream over all - he's still always some form of jet, and if the mold isn't released in some combination of red and grey or white at first, it's sure as hell getting those colors for a repaint. I think you're exaggerating the situation a bit.

I love Prime personally. I have a whole shelf and 1/2 devoted to him in his many forms.

This is the kind of thinking that led to the show ending in the 80's. They killed Optimus off to sell new product (Rodimus Prime, etc) and the show wound up getting canceled. Face it, we will always have a Optimus (though if Hasbro wants to try something a little different, ie have a Leader start the line and have Optimus come in later, that works)

Oddly enough, his profile lists his favorite character is Starscream, who's a red and off white jet with the cockpit on his chest, same head design, wing pack, and pylons beside his head.

    Every. Single. Time.

I think you're just trying to stuff a "justification" on to us for your personal dislike of Prime.

It's called "icon" for a reason. If he's not a red and blue truck, he's not Optimus Prime, simple. Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, they all get the same treatment.

And I will conclude by saying that my Henkei Convoy is AWESOME and in no way what so ever does it suck.

Optimus Prime is the icon of Transformerness. He's the Superman, the Batman, the Spiderman. He's the guy you don't reinvent with huge changes because people OTHER than rabid fanboys would complain. :)

In the meantime, can I interest you in an Optimus PRIMAL? you know he was Optimus Prime until the cartoon established him as a different character, right? Comes in several stylish gorilla flavors - and bat.

He hasn't always had the same color scheme, anyway. RID Prime was almost completely red and white. His super mode didn't add blue. It added gold and orangey hues.

Energon Prime had an obnoxiously white chest plate and a lot of black. And his main mode was actually his super modes, which added a lot of other vehicles and colors.

Animated Prime's wheels are exclusively allocated to his heels, a design change with the purpose of giving him an action feature in the show.

And saying he's always "a" truck is a little too general. There's quite a bit of difference between a semi and a firetruck, if I may say so.

Oh, yeah, and there's Alternators Prime, who's a completely red pickup truck...

At first I thought someone had lost their ever loving mind. Now I'm sure someone has lost their ever loving mind.
