I agree. Characters don’t need to be killed off to make a good plot. Ironhide’s death was not needed.
Geez, are we now reduced to picking on the guy because of WHY he likes a certain TF!? It being his first transformer is a perfectly valid reason. He doesn't say that's ALL he likes about him, or that he hasn't considered the characterisation of Bluestreak (or anyone else for that matter), or that this would impede on storylines. There are lots of reasons why Magnus is my favourite character...but they probably all started on my 8th birthday when I got him from my Mum & Dad! As for Prime turning himself in to the humans... why are people saying this is so out of character?? If you're a G1 cartoon fan it's perfectly in keeping with the love-in Prime had for humans during that show (and remember, he surrendered pretty quickly to keep the peace with the humans in "Megatron's Master Plan"). If you're a Marvel G1 fan, it's perfectly reconcilable: Its in the Marvel continuity where Prime's guilt about bringing the war to Earth is most personified. It stands to reason that he would surrender. And yes, Prime's got form for surrendering here too - remember his deal with Scorponok?? So somebody please explain to me HOW Prime's actions are so out of character that it makes you want to quite reading the stories!?!?! Let's unbunch those panties people.
It's funny that he has spent about 7 issues of AHM lying half-dead before his miraculous resurrection (despite Ratchet being adamant that he was beyond repair) - then 1 year later, he resigns... I think Prime secretly enjoys being dead! How very far this is from the iconic, aloof but capable leader who has yet shown compassion to even a dying Decepticon in Stormbringer. IDW cannot save this continuity by bringing Furman back. I'm just sorry to see this whole reboot happening so often. Marvel TF comics have been written for like 8 years without a single reboot (the Budiansky/Furman transition was not even that apparent if you have been reading the UK comics)... while DW had one reboot, IDW is already reaching its second (third if you count Megatron origin).
Origin wasn't a reboot in any sense. It was backstory for the existing continuity. AHM was TRYING to be a semi-reboot, but they chickened out (thankfully) and wrote it back into the continuity, having just "forgotten" about Galvatron and HunterStreaker for a few issues. All that aside, the "-ation" continuity was some of the coolest TF stories we've had in a long time, and there were still the people who didn't warm to it: "No livable Cybertron? COLD war? No Ark Volcano crash?" AHM turned out okay, despite the never-explained redesigns and haphazard efforts to cram it back into the "-ation" continuity. Felt jerry rigged, but whatev. I trust Furman. I know that doesn't make me cool anymore, but I still like the guy's writing (with the exception of the occasional Furmanism in the dialogue, and the existence of Drift). I made mine Marvel in the 80's, and he was good then, too. Maybe Prime will be back, maybe he won't, but it'll be fun to see what they do.
Who says he's gone forever? Megatron blew a similar hole through Starscream and he returned. Sunstreaker appearantly died as well, only to be revealed to have survived a few issues later. This isn't directed toward you, 'Swipe, but why overreact on the first issue? We have 5 to go before the story is over and the next arc begins.
Wouldn't mind seeing Jazz or Elita1 take over. I wonder what they plan to do with Starscream and the Matrix....
If IDW still remembers that. Wouldn't surprise if the ongoing places the Matrix in the Autobots' possession, and then they come with Transformers Ongoing Coda part Deux to explain how the Autobots got it back. What does Furman have to do with Drift? Drift is a Shane McCarty creation. -airfox
Yes, I thought of how she would lead. It would be interesting, and one of the few times Prowl would support mutiny. But seriously, if that's the problem, why not just introduce more female characters? I can't imagine it would be that difficult.
Didn't Jhiaxus say that he was experimenting with introducing gender into the race and Arcee was the only one?
I'm fairly certain the line was more along the lines of Arcee was the first, and didn't measure up to his expectations, I don't remember anything about her being the only one. It may have been implied, but I don't think it was directly stated. Therefore, it would be easy to write around. Besides, there have been background cameos from other femmes in various issues if I'm not mistaken.
IDW wanted this news to be spread. Its the main article on their own front page. This is like seeing a trailer for a movie - everything in the trailer is something the producers want you to see to entice you to want more.
The main reason I want to read this is because Costa is onboard. I haven't read Transformers often since All Hail Megatron started(I preferred the direction Furhman was going and was disappointed that much of it was done away with with AHM). Costa did a phenomenal job on G.I. Joe: Cobra, it's the best Joe comic that IDW has published so far and it was unpredictable, exciting, and fresh. Costa did well on Cobra so I think The Transformers will be an exciting read.
well, I was keeping up with all 18 pages (yeah!) and I've read Stormbringer, Escalation and MTMTE, as well as the Megs origins. I was pretty shocked to hear that Prime was resigning as the Autobot leader - I totally forgot that he resigned twice (yes, I'm getting old too). I like the proposal of giving someone else the leadership like Arcee, Jazz or Elita-1, would be a interesting read. But I disliked the "transgender" (ha ha!) introduction of Arcee via Jhiaxus. I've never read a worse storyline than this and I never understood the need to explain the gender thing in Transformers, though this is a hotly debated topic, where everyone has its own view. Besides, Arcee was OOC in this. Anyway, "Arcee Prime", "Jazzimus Prime" or "Elita Prime" doesn't sound bad, would be interesting to see, how the characters would be coping the responsibility of leadership - I hope they don't make them as a whineing depressing Rodimus - the matrix contains enough knowledge of other Primes, that the bearer wouldn't need to doubt or hesitate of making a descision, even an unpopular one.
Hope that my local shop still has some in stock by noon tomorrow, haven't had a chance to pick this up yet.
Just because G1 did it too doesn't make it right. I always thought even as a little kid that "Megatron's Master Plan" was a stupid ass story arc. My point, and I assume the point of others, is that this is being passed off as NEW AND IMPROVED as though the writers were super clever for having thought it up, when actually it's one of the most overused plot devices in all of Transformers lore. The fact that it's lame and stupid is really only icing on the cake.
