I have the book in front of me, so here's a quick summary:

This part is written in first person like Optimus is telling the story.
The President has wanted to meet with Optimus for a while, but because of security stuff he can't really visit the White House, so they are meeting at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. The president gets off of Air Force One (Optimus thinks the plane would make a cool Transformer) and they salute each other. The president makes a joke about giving Optimus a medal, but he doesn't have one to fit around Optimus's neck and he's made of metal so why would he need more? Then Optimus gets a message from Ratchet that Sentinel attacked everyone and tells the President he (the President) has to leave because of the danger. The President wants to help his family, but Optimus says that he will help his family and the country by staying alive. Optimus assures the President he will protect his family, and they both leave.

Mearing: "Yeah, take a look, Optimus! This is all on you!!"

Prime: "But, the President wanted to see me."

Mearing: "Oh, that is the lamest excuse I have EVER HEARD! Your great leader just killed dozens of human lives while you had to stop off for a photo op and a Whopper! You are INCOMPETENT, OPTIMUS PRIME!"

Prime: (sulks off, head held low)

Or maybe it will be like,
Mearing: "Yeah, take a look, Optimus! This is all on you!!"

Prime: "But President wanted to see me. He also mention about that promotion and raise he's planning to give you" :)

    Mearing: "Wait......Really?" :D

    Prime: "NO" :p

    Mearing: :(

...naahh, Bay needs to have his puny humans who think they can boss around 30 ft tall robots, leaving Optimus to just look at them behind his back, thinking, 'your face is stupid...yeah, that's what I should have said."

    That's the stuff.

I think Prime also tries contacting Ironhide over comms, but gets no response. He remarks that it's not as if Ironhide is just not answering, it's as if he's not even there anymore, which of course he isn't since he's currently a big pool of melted rusty metal. His death scene description is nastier in the book too.

    That novel was pretty badass.

The scene where Mearing yells at Optimus isn't even in the book! The next scene with Optimus is him at the Mall. He thinks Sentinel is under Decepticon control and tries to talk him out of it, but Sentinel says "Control? You think that the Decepticons have somehow corrupted me? Are forcing me to act against my will? Oh, Optimus, how can you be so old and so utterly naive?"

That's pretty much exactly what happened, yes. :thumb

That was my interpretation if you had tied in the Optimus meeting the President scene, with the 'Take a look, Optimus' moment in the film.

After all, it's a given that if you have a human 'jerk' in the films, they can't ever give the heroes any leeway. Just look at Simmons and Galloway, as well as Attinger: they can't turn their '@$$hole' modes off half the time in such situations.

It was that way with a lot of the characters in 'Armageddon' as well for Bay.

The comics sounds awesome! I've read an issue with Skids and Mudflap's deaths, it was heroic and upsetting! Makes me wish it was in the movie

Reading this thread is making me want to go out out and get the DOTM novel. I have the novel to ROTF which was pretty in depth and detailed and was so much better than the movie. Novels tend to be a lot more detailed than their movie counterpart. Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons come to mind.....

Boy, now I remember why I only read the first movie's novelization once. it included:

    - Glen freakin' out about his phone going, 'My phone! You owe me a new phone, Simmons!'

    - Sam remarking to Mikaela after telling her to 'put a seat belt on' the Allspark, that 'we sounded like parents just then.'

    - Lennox's drawn-out argument with Rhonda at 'Rhonda's Pawn Shop' for those shortwave radios.
