Optimus's action while not the norm for most Optimus Prime's works for this universe and continuity because of how the rules are.

Oh, you didn't like the way Prime acted all human? Decepticon= human? I'll tell you, If I fought to save the lives of a group of people my enemy was going to exterminate, and several of my people died in the process, fine. I wouldn't expect these people to make me their king or anything, but if I watched them show their gratitude and, hunt down, kill, and torture my people, I'm going to be going a little "Decepticon" on someone's ass. And since you watched the eighties cartoon, remember that Megatron convinced Prime to activate the machine that was going refuel Cybertron by tearing Earth apart. Prime had a crisis of conscience, because he was dooming one world regardless, and chose his people, intitially.

 

Someone needs to do a parody of the song 'Maniac,' with Optimus:

'He's a ma-ni-ac, ma-ni-ac Au-to-bot!

And he's kill-ing like no has ev-ah thought!"

 

The script in the movie sucked. Optimus wasn't himself in the movie

 

That was the point of the movie though. After all he'd been through on earth and everything he'd fought for the humans had even turned on him and were killing his friends and trying to kill him. It was ment to show after everything that's happened its taken a toll and him, as it would anyone under those circumstances.

 

Would you be yourself if someone was killing all of your closest friends and family?

 

How should he have responded to the genocide of his people, after risking his life 3 times to defend the Earth from their own devices?

I think around RotF I accepted that Movieverse Optimus is much more Clint Eastwood than John Wayne. I've made peace with it.
