Am I the only fan of the series here? I've watched 178 episodes and I can easily call it my favorite anime of all time. Since theres about 400 ways of watching this show please use spoiler tags when discussing major events.
I love that show, I'm on the part they introduced Ace. (Hope that wasn't a spoiler). But my DVDs only go up to episode 124. Funny because I got this and Naruto and I was supposed to watch Naruto first. I got up to the Rock Lee/Gaara fight and decided to try a little bit of One Piece right after and I never put it down yet. I gotta say though, the Straw Hat Pirates all have some sad, sad origin stories.
Surprising enough I find myself strangely attracted to this show for some reason. Mostly watch it due to it comes on right after Cybertron on Fridays, not the greatest anime I've ever seen but interesting nonetheless.
I heard a lot of One Piece fans say that the american dub is really bad. It's supposed to be the best selling Manga in Japan. But I don't watch the 4kids dub so I have nothing to compare to.
Well the 4Kids dubbing company is a butcher shop. They turned One Piece into One Single-Piece-of-Crap. And I have proof: http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=145 And Tokyo Mew Mew was on the list too. What other animes did 4Kids butcher?
Yep, the One Piece "dub" is in the same field as the Sailor Moon, Card Captor Sakura, and Nausicaa dubs. They went so far as to change the race of a pirate, cut out 35% of the episodes, and ruin some very touching scenes. It's also known for having some of the worst (and funniest) HK subtitles, it's stuff like this that makes us glad we have the fansubs to watch.
I absolutely love One piece. Thankfully the manga is unedited. I've read up to the midpoint of the Arlong saga and am eagerly waiting for more.
The Arlong Arc was when I really fell in love with One Piece. It gave us some great development on the characters and had two of my favorite fights. It's not quite as good as the Arabasta Arc, but takes second place.
Agreed on the comparison to the CCS dub.Disagree on Sailor Moon Sailor Moon from about mid 2nd season was VERY accurate and the first half wasn't that bad either On the subject of One Piece While I don't dislike the dub.It still doesn't hold my interests,meaning that if I had the opportunity to see the sub then I wouldn't be interested either
Shaun C - I can see why some people wouldn't like One Piece. It's very long and does drag at some points, it's got a few annoying characters (Miss Valentines, Coby), the art style is very out there (one of my reasons for liking it), and the filler is quite possibly some of the worst anime ever made. Soundwave - One of the best parts about the sub are the intros, they're so damn good : D
Oh ya I know, a buddy of mine sold me some of the One Peice OSTs for practically nothing, awesome stuff I was merely joking that the One Piece dub intro makes me laugh because of its horridness
Yep, you've gotta love the music in the series. I think i've got about 8 different versions of "We Are" alone.
I had One Piece on as background once and from what I caught, it did seem like it had potential, but I just can't bring myself to watch it. Partially becasue a lot of the 4Kids actors just bug me for some reason (one of the reasons I don't watch Sigma Six). I don't doubt FOX and/or 4Kids is butchering it though. I mean, they tried to air Escaflone as a kids' for cryin' out load.
My first experience of One Peice was the dub. Which was so horrible that it turned me off One Peice totally.
That's why you should watch the fansubs. Luffy doesn't sound 10 years old and Sanji doesn't have some awful brooklyn accent. The best One Piece group currently has 179 and an assload of movies/specials subbed already. Spartan - That's a shame, you're missing out on a really good show.
The reason for the change in Sailor Moon was a change in the company relasing it. They dicided to go for a more accurate locialization.
Yeah I know,they switched to a company called Cloverway I own ADV's uncut Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon R & with the exception of the episode Day of Destiny I don't recall Sailor Moon being changed THAT much
