Just curious--what accounts for the price tag being so high? Because it is "hand painted and assembled"?

Isn't that pretty much the same as the SOC one? I mean, wasn't the SOC based off the SHE design?

No. The SOC came later but it actually doesn't share much in common (as far as the transformation goes) with the SHE version. It also has some parts swapping and different proportions.

It's not the biggest, or the most accurate, or even the nicest looking Gunbuster figure, it's true. Owning a Studio Half Eye piece is about the experience, rather than necessarily the quality of the toy itself.

The SHE one also has some stuff the SOC doesn't- a modular base/pair of bases, and a freaking cool Homing Laser accessory. It's also fully perfect-transformation.

Hehe, I remember when someone translated Pony-san's SOC Gunbuster review and he was so totally nitpicking it into pieces while talking up how much better the SHE foot transformation was.

Awesome piece. How was transforming it? A real pain or a real journey through engineering heaven? How heavy or fragile does it feel?

Very nice! I also gotta ask (and I'm being serious) were you nervous while transforming , handling him?

It is indeed engineering magic! I would love a full diecast version. It's fairly light, but doesn't feel that fragile. I hope that does not lead my down the road of stupid mistake one day.
