Hah, maybe... Yeah I really doubted there was anywhere to plug those upper halves of the tracks on him, but the folding thing seems like a good way to do it. No way to pull that off without the need for hinges or pins? I've never dabbled in 3D printing so I wouldn't know... Either way, I get your dilemma there and it's still totally awesome. You know how it is when you see a new add on kit or figure reveal and you are blown away by it, but there is this one thing that just doesn't quite look right that bugs ya? Just my opinion though and we all have different ones.
Can't wait to see it painted! Out of all radicons this ranks right up there with that scratch built animated omega! Well done!!!!
So, I was waiting for some of Shockwaves parts to print and I thought I’d stop procrastinating and say hello to an old friend. Time to get this guy painted. Started sanding down one of his legs. Holy crap, sanding parts this big and awkward is a pain. I had to stop the sanding sponge and moved to my dremel to try and make a bit more progress. Anyone have any tips for finishing prints but not spending hours on them or using harsh chemicals like acetone? Probably wishful thinking but you never know....
loving you're still going with this got my prusa mk3 arriving next week so looking forward to doing my own!
Nice. That's exciting. Let me know if you have any questions. I may be able to help with the learning curve. Or make it worse. Lol.
Progress on the painting. I decided to stick with the darker grey, which I really like, with the plan of bringing in the yellow highlights and a bright red on the body (still to do). It’s all still a work in progress but wanted to share how it’s coming along. So far, I’m loving the improved paint scheme.
So, I’ve been debating this and I think I may have a go at removing the stock backpack and replacing it with a custom one that will allow the track pieces to be mounted differently and more closely mimic the g1 look. More on this to come but it would make the stock backpack pieces redundant. Thanks very much. Appreciate it.
Hurrah! Nice job. They look great. Sucks that they take so long to print doesn’t it, lol? Feels like you’re never going to get to the end. Let me know if you ever want to tackle the backpack and track pieces because I will throw the files your way too.
Managed to do a bit more painting. Still not the finished article but I think the change colors has really made a big improvement so far. I’m actually starting to like mini Omega. And, I’m seriously considering designing some new mini Omega lower arms, with hands, that are a bit more in scale.
Update. New mounting for the tracks on the back. Did require removal of the stock backpacks but it’s a more streamlined look that’s a bit more G1 inspired.
Update. In an attempt to one up the forthcoming official Titan Omega, I went back to the drawing board a little with this guy. As per the last update, I redesigned the backpack so as to allow the tracks to be stored in a more G1 style. I’ve also been trying to develop the idea that essentially I started with an independent figure, Genesis, and turned him into Omega Supreme. In that change, Genesis lost a bit of identity. So, here is my one up. I’m creating a new version of Genesis, that I am going to call Omega Genesis. OG will be around the size of the standard combiners. I am going to use some spare Perfect Effect Bruticus feet and have created an adaptor that allows them to be pegged to the bottom of the stock Genesis foot. This will give Genesis a height boost of a couple of inches and make his lower leg a bit better proportioned. I’m also designing some new lower arms that will incorporate hands. For these, I am using the Perfect Effect Devastator hands, and they will fit into a forearm adaptor and connect to the stock Genesis elbow joint. These mods will allow Omega Genesis to be a stand alone figure and guardian of the add on kit base mode. Then, when he needs to step up his firepower, he can combine with the base and become Omega Supreme. Here is the first pic of this tangent journey. I only have one ankle adaptor done at the moment, so he’s a little lop sided in the pic. Lol.
Both ankles are done. Working on the prototypes for the arms. Here, you can see the elbow ratchets I’m trying to develop and the first version of the forearm. The perfect effect Devastator hand and arm attachment fits inside the forearm.
