Why is it they finally get a good vehicle but have to give it the dumbest sounding name?

It's likely a codename to help conceal the character's true identity until the production is ready to reveal it.

Does this mean the number plate is just a coincidence and Cogman isn't really connected to KSI?

The fact 'Sqweeks' is an official name kind of undermines the idea they're even bothering with misdirecting names this time around.

Well, to be fair Reedman was never called by his name.
There's ways the chance for that to happen to Cogman too.

"Reedman" was never actually used anywhere except internally amongst the crew. (I prefer to think of him as Buzzsaw, btw.)

And "Sqweeks" has been officially announced and confirmed, whereas we only know the name "Cogman" from the leaked plot synopsis, which itself demonstrated the need for codenames to conceal certain character identities.

I wonder if it's a nickname, sort of like Megaman/Iceman.

Loser theory that could actually explain things but obviously isn't correct because these are the TF movies INCOMING:

He was discovered long ago by humans. Like the humans called him Cogman because he's a "man" made of mechanics, because he was found in ye olde times where things were clockwork even though he's super advanced. But unlike Megatron, he's friendly and likes humans, so he kept the name they gave him out of respect for the humans who were likewise kind to him maybe. I think that could easily be a cute and endearing history behind his name tied into actual backstory with logic and reason as well as plot relevance.

But it's the TF movies, so his name is Cogman because of a different reason that likely isn't a reason at all except "he's a robot haha."

Reedman was only given a name because there was a voice actor for him and that was Frank Welker so a name had to be made up for the end credits. I believe Cogman will indeed be a cover name unlike Sqweeks. And that's because Sqweeks got a trademark filed for his name to apply to toys whereas we havent seen any such trademark application for a Cogman or Autobot Cogman which we should have seen by now IMO.

    No, KS1.

KS16 means 2016 on UK plates.

I definitely like the idea of "Cogman" being a medieval, human designation for a Cybertronian.

Reminds me a lot of the "Man of Iron" from the Marvel Comics Transformers run and, as you said, "Project: Iceman" from the movies themselves.

But "Cogman" would still have had his own name beforehand and I'm expecting his identity to be an important plot point and a big reveal, regardless.

While a good theory, I'm not sure the word Cog was used in that timeframe. At least not in the way we use it now. I could be wrong though but in that time, I thought the word Cog was used to reference a ship?
