I put a hold on Brawl Saturday night. Called the next day to confirm and they said the store said they havent had any transformers in stock for a while. Certainly didnt have the figure the website said they had in stock. He also said none of the stores in the area showed any in stock either.

Checked the website again just now. All the same figures are back up to full price now but show out of stock

 

Yeah, I just saw that. Bummer.

 

The deal appears to be over. I was close to buying yesterday, but realized I just wasn't that interested and would rather get another MP figure instead.

 

Yea...the only 2 SS figures i had to have were grimlock and ironhide. The new SS bumblebee movie Optimus is another must for me and dotm leader megs, ww2 bumblebee. Nothing else looks good.

 

Little lifehack protip for Gamestop: NEVER call to check a price, and NEVER call to reserve something for pickup, especially if it is on sale.
If the website says it is in stock, go directly to the store and investigate in person. Even if that means risking a wasted trip.

Here's why:
Gamestop employees are vultures. If you call to reserve a thing, you're tipping your hand, letting them know there is a desirable item in the store that is probably cheaper than it should be. And since you haven't paid for it yet, they have no real obligation to actually hold it for you. Whatever it is, they will invariably take it for themselves before you ever get there, choosing to blame another employee, or computer problems, or inaccurate inventory for the item's sudden disappearance.
I blew it more than a few times before I got wise, and now it's nothing short of miraculous how many clearance items remain available at the 3 local stores provided the staff aren't made aware beforehand.

I actually wondered about that......what would keep the employee from jumping in the deal. Lesson learned.......Not that I think I've ever bought anything from gamestop in the past....or plan to in the future.

 

If you have a retail ThinkGeek, they can order in anything from basically any GameStop in the system and you can pay upfront.

 

Yeah, that store is really bad. Last Christmas I went to my local to pick up some Pokémon cards that were on deep discount for my kids. When I asked one of the sales reps to help me find them, he admitted one of the other employees (I think he said a manager or assistant) told him to stash all of them into the back for his own purchase.
To his credit, he pulled a few back out for me to purchase.

Anyways, picked up Shockwave and Ultra Magnus at the Tustin Target and the Barranca Target. Both stores still have 1-2 Ultra Magnus.

 

Yup, this is a general rule for every store, not just gamestop. First rule of deal hunting is YOU NEVER CALL
