This pic you posted pretty much sums it up for me. We're eight years out from Classics and all Hasbro accomplished in that time with an updated Voyager Optimus is a giant step backwards.

 

Why was there a need for a fake chest? This isnt a complicated movieverse design how fo they fuck that up? A G1 Optimus is the easiest fucking toy to design and it's been done before. The fuck.

Hasbro should be embarrassed. 70% of the stuff shown off is borderline shit.

 

There's rampant speculation going on 4chan that this guy isn't meant to 100% be Optimus, but to be retooled as Motormaster for Generations "Combiner" 2015 theme. It would explain the fake chest...

.... What is the point of this Prime? There a a ton of better looking G1 Optimus toys for the collectors. The kids are mostly going to want toys of movie and cartoon Prime. It's not a representation of IDW Prime, even the Legends figure does that better. Hell he doesn't even have a trailer to liven him up. There is no point to this toy.

 

As bad as the robot is... That truck. Have they ever seen a truck? I don't think they've ever seen a truck.

 

Honestly, I like this design a lot. The only part I'm not too into is the head. I wish it was a bit sharper looking or something. But other than that, I'm into it.

... that makes little sense imo. Motormaster didn't have window boobs. For them to make this MM and actually make it work in terms of hitting the right nostalgia bells they'd have to retool the entire figure from head to toe including the addition of combiner ports. Which really wouldn't be too far fetched but... I don't see it in this case.

Optimus and Megatron are the only ones I'd call shit, but even Megatron I just don't like.

I really don't get why the head looks so bad. How do you mess up Optimus' head? I mean, Hasbro makes them all the time, and this barely resembles him.

 

I going with the 4chan theory - this guy is a remold and repaint of a Voyager Motormaster with the combing gimmick still intact. It would make sense.

 

How is it the Legends class figure managed to pull off the IDW look better than this? I mean, they couldn't engineer a real chest for it? This is all kinds of disappointing... Definitely gonna pick up the Classics version with the AoE Voyager instead of this.

 

I wasn't expecting this, but I'm still very disappointed.
