Sweet, four GL titles.
what's the fourth???
there's GL, GLC, and GL: EMERALD WARRIORS
I'm guessing Brightest Day?
Yeah, I'm just including that one as the fourth.
WHAT?! Friggin Guy gets his own book whily Kyle is stuck being a co-star still? Oh well. To be honest, John will probably be the one that gets the shaft from that set up since no one seems to want to write him much.
Cool, glad to hear there's going to be another new ongoing GL title; the sales on the two current books definitely suggest the franchise could support another one. I'm also happy that John is getting moved out of GL. Johns clearly either dislikes the character or has absolutely no interest in even trying to write him, so it's good that he's going to another title where the creative team might give him some space to develop. Also nice to see Guy finally getting another headlining role, with Tomasi as writer, since he's my favorite Earth-based GL.
That said, there is some stuff there that concerns me. Tomasi and Gleason are absolutely hitting it out of the park on GLC and I think it's going to be hard to equal their success. I also thought the BN: R.E.B.E.L.S. tie-in was awful, with nothing "deft" about how it was written, so I'm not enthusiastic about Tony Bedard taking over GLC. I'll give it a chance, though. I'm also a little disappointed that the Guy/Kyle team is being broken up; I liked their dynamic. I would have preferred to see John join Kilowog, Ganthet and the other GLs in GLC and then spin Guy and Kyle off into a separate book, maybe GL: Honor Guard instead of GL: Emerald Warriors.
Did you read anything else from R.E.B.E.L.S.?
Bedard's Exiles was pretty damn good too. That alone makes me less worried about the change of writers.
No, and based on the "quality" of that tie-in, I'm not going to.
Blah. R.E.B.E.L.S. has had an excelent run so far, I could understand you not liking the Tie ins since they were really written for people alredy reading R.E.B.E.L.S., not for those who were just jumping on because of BN.
But hey, diffrent strokes for diffrent folks
That was one of my problems with it, it was like Bedard wasn't even attempting to appeal to new readers. A tie-in to an event like BN, and also being one of the "ring" issues, is going to draw a lot of new people to check out a title who might otherwise pass it up. Seems like a writer would want to try their best to hook those new readers and make the issues accessible to them, instead of just playing to the crowd that's already there. That's the title's moment of wide exposure and, judging by R.E.B.E.L.S. sales numbers, it needs the help. However, there was nothing in that tie-in to suggest, to me, that it was worth reading another issue and I just can't go along with "the rest of the series is better" without some evidence of that in the tie-in. Compare that to the BN Booster Gold tie-in which, IMO, was very accessible to a new reader, as well as being a really good story in general. I'm currently still following Booster Gold, plan to pick up the trades and will stay with it until Giffen takes over.
Also, based solely on the tie-in issues of R.E.B.E.L.S., I didn't think Bedard handled the large cast very well, especially when compared to Tomasi's work. It may be asking too much to hold a subsequent GLC writer up to Tomasi's standard, but being able to handle a large cast is going to be important for that book.
Another GL-related series that I'm going to cave in and buy. Normally, that'd be cause for celebration. But starring Guy? God...I was hoping they'd kill him off in Blackest Night and leave him that way.
Kyle seriously either needs to be the star of his own book again, or get Ion back. He needs love, not a 3 or 4 (total-ish) page death and a lame resurrection. Were it not for that fact that I love Hal as GL, I'd say I really miss the GL of the mid-90s. Kyle was badass even when he was a rookie.

Holy crap, GL 51 might just be the best comic ever.
And I'm gonna be buying a whole lot of DC comics in the future.
i did, and i dug it alot... very cool how it was from Connor's point of view... the ice freeze thing was a bit lame, but we know (from BN batman) that ice apparently makes things invisible, so technically (as lame as it is) ice does seem like a perfect holding cell for a black ring...
yeah, not sure if BD counts, but either way i'm excited...
how are you reading that already? its not out til next wednesday? and please, no spoilers... or at least hide them... cuz i really wanna read it before knowing what happens...
Preview is up on IGN
GL 51 looks awesome. Was wondering what BL Superman was up to.
oh sick... that looks really really good...
Supergirl is joining the JLA? ....I might have to add that to my pull list.
