You should all know that a homage is when a new character looks like an old one. They don't necessarily have to share the same name. (I'm looking at you Energon Downshift who should have been Wheeljack.) An odd homage is something that probably wasn't even intentional but something about a figure reminded you of another character. For example the barrow of the cannon on Beast Machines Tankor is the same shape as the barrow of G1 Shockwave's gun mode. It's not even show accurate and nothing else about Tankor is at all "Shockwave" like it's just that Mega class toy with his Shockwave shaped cannon. Recently I noticed that if you hold movie Sentinel Prime's shield upside down when it's folded up, it's shaped like G1 Cyclonus' head, complete with rabbit ears. I also think Animated Blitzwing's cold face looks allot like Megatron's damaged severed head. Animated Megatron's Fusion cannon, like Tankor's cannon, has the same shape as Shockwave's cannon. Animated Swindle has an arm cannon that looks more like G1 Megatron's fusion cannon than the one Animated Megatron has and his chest design has an odd resemblance to Optimus Prime making him a bit of a Homage to Guitar or however you spell his name.
It has puzzled me why Energon Prowl wasn't named Mirage. But then again, the repaint that actually has a Prowl deco was named Checkpoint, so there you go.
This is a very very easy one: Energon Battle Ravage has one weapon that is almost identical to G1 Megatron's Fusion cannon
Don't mean to be a meaning nazi but homages are supposed to be intentional. Otherwise you say that something looks like an homage. All movie Primes sort of look like they have a face in the chest but the original TFTM leader Prime looks like and homage to Brave Exkaiser.
It could very well be that homages that we see later may very well be intentional by 1 single designer at hasbro.
The only one that comes to mind is TFTM Mudflap. It's easily a homage to Erector, but why was he a Decepticon?
how in the world was a movie-verse mudflap an erector homage OR a decepticon? EDIT * RESEARCH! I see..... a yellow repaint of CYBERTRON Mudflap was released DURING the movie.
Does he have a molded Decepticon symbol? If so, that'd be the reason. On the Prowl/Checkpoint thing, I always found it funny that Checkpoint's head looks exactly like G1 Prowl's.
Cybertron Evac looks a whole lot like the Micromaster Blaze Master to me (and that is who he is in my collection).
Energon Sharkticon kinda looks like Depth Charge and Sky-Byte's secret love child. The head molds for Sharkticon and Depth Charge are very similar but he has Sky-Byte's alt mode and some of his colors. (Looks more like a submarine than a shark but his name is Sharkticon.)
To me RID X-Brawn looks somewhat like Tailgate Cybertron Landmine could pass as Scoop Cybertron Armorhide also might pass as a Pipes I can go on.....
Erector was building bridges for many things, such as nostalgic homages and peace bridges for eons. He was sporting a Decepticon symbol as an gesture of good will. Also, the fact Erector and Mudflap (speaking of movieverse here) isn't coincidental, I'd like to think. Mudflap got a lot of hate, especially from the toy fans when they refused to buy his many toys. Erector sought to rally to Mudflaps defense by taking on his name simply to honor his comrade in toy form. He knew we'd still all know he was Erector anyways See above. He was trying to build a bridge of peace between the Autobots and Decepticons. Aiding the Constructicons was the most logical step towards universal peace between factions. *looks up*
