They spent the tooling money on him already before RVDA ever showed them Supermax.  

 

What is Super Megatron, or the Megatron equivalent to this release? I'm completely unfamiliar with this character/design/series.

It looks badass though! Honestly that bot mode may be enough to sell me, and I have zero attachment or knowledge of the character.

Super Megatron is also what Cassy Sark (controversially) based Reformatted Tyranton's alt mode on, to some extent.

 

What is this new line aiming at?

Ocular Max seems to be loosely Studio Ox or more Japanese styled G1.
Reformatted is IDW compatible.
Ocular max Unlimited are probably the Japanese exclusive characters that focus on bot mode and an alt mode that isn't a real life vehicle.

 

Yeah that alt-mode really needs some work, feels unfinished even for an MMC prototype

Still really digging the look of the robot mode enough to consider it. Not that I can be too picky with getting two versions of my favorite Prime designs in the same year.

 

Looks nice, but when comparing him to his official counterpart, I personally prefer the headsculpt on the latter.

None of those would be necessary because Star Convoy is not a seperate character as he is in fact G1 Prime revived (and given a new body).

 

From the photos, it looks like a test shot to me. If it is (and not a print), we're not going to see any major changes going forward.

 

I've decided I don't care if it's really big enough to be properly MP-scaled (I have no idea how big Star Convoy is supposed to be in the first place... maybe Super Ginrai-sized?), and I don't care how accurate or not the alt-mode is (one heavily-armed space truck is as good as the next). I must have this.

 

Like I'm not a toy designer in any way and I don't have much to go on to tell how it transforms or what the budget is, but it feels like this alt mode has some easy fix solutions that could be made.

Unless there's some crazy base mode shenanigans afoot.

 

I think the choice is easy to understand
1) Like sovietbot said up there, this is 1st Star Convoy in 3rd part world
2) Supermax is 2nd version IDW Fort max, plus the 1st one is pretty well made from PE. Someone might argue PE version is not good enough, but for me, I would rather save money from another IDW Fort to buy Star Convoy.

Yeah I was wondering about that. I don’t think this is it renamed. I think it’s a different thing. This seems like general classics stuff. While reformatted is IDW.

I've been wanting this so much, Takara announced one based of the POTP Optimus.

That alt mode really isn’t that great, but given the G1 figure was a brick and this isn’t, I can overlook it. Not going to be keeping him in alt mode anyway.

I do take back what I said about MMC nailing the design of the robot mode though. Takara-Tomy’s has the better head sculpt.

In any case, I’m hoping there will be a Rodimus to go with him down the line regardless of whether or not he has a base mode or even a chest cockpit.

 

Hrm. Not really liking it in color. Not sure what this line is supposed to be. Need to see more.
