I'd love an MMC Sentinel but I've grown attached to my Gabriel.

The Constructicons aren't really chromed on the vehicle parts, aside from Mixmaster's grill as you already mentioned.

Has/Tak has a pretty decent blueprint in that regard. Their Bonecrusher and Scavenger are two of the best figures in that set, being both show-accurate and well-proportioned as well as fully articulated, and they integrate the forearms and hands into their design. So I don't see that as a massive design challenge.

I have no interest in Devastator, but their Combaticons and Protectobots are some of my favorite toys of the past two years. Whoever is in on their Devastator will have a great experience! :)

All self contained? I don't know about that. There will *have* to be compromises. Low expectations.

The good thing with devastator is you have 6 bots instead of the 5 all the others have, 2 bots for the torso gives you more to work with and the feet are easily done on a devastator, the arms are the challenge as others have said but the easiest way round that is to use the treads as forearms and the hand can be halved inside them in bot and alt mode. Though I'm sure people will take issue with that as it's not "toon" accurate in look even though their other combiners have a toon look they are predominantly updated G1 toy designs in execution.

When it comes to the arms,
1.I always envisioned The chest opening upwards,
    2.lowerarm swivelling out
    3. Lowerarm opening
    4. Hand swiveling out
    5. Close lowerarm
    6. Close chest and connect to torso

or 3./4. Hand pushes out of bottom of lowerarm (so no opening needed.

Only thing is the bots need to be a bit bigger.

Just like their Combaticon and Protectobot sets, the compromise is sacrificing perfect animation accuracy for the sake of better toys.

Go with whatever the G1 toys had (and thus what the toon may have approximated with off-whites or light grays).

Am I the only one here who's ever bathed in the glory that is the chrome shop at the Iowa 80 truck stop? (the world's largest)

I'm not sure whether to buy Xtb’s devastator or mmc’s one.

Do you like toys that have clever, fun transformations but might not be 100% cartoon accurate and may have a few other compromises for the sake of no partsforming for a slightly smaller combined mode? Or do you like toys that are extremely cartoon accurate in bot mode, realistic in alt mode, bigger combined mode due to some kind of partsforming, but is a pain in the ass to transform and will likely have QC issues?

I prefer bot mode which is very close to cartoon.

If you’re committed to MP scale then xtb might be your best bet. If you’re into legends, the Newage constructicons are uncanny, they look like they stepped right off the cel.
That seemed like a fair explanation. He complimented XTB’s aesthetics and size but criticized their transformations and QC. Those are pretty common complaints.

I agree it's fair too. Their version of Menasor is a trauma for a hole generation. Speaking of transformation/QC Xtb can be the best (Scourge, Seaspray) or the worst (Menasor, Kup).
