I mean I definitely wouldn't mind that either, especially if they could give him a more accurate front end, but for a G1 version of him a classy midcentury European touring car just feels even more in-character IMO.

I’ve been in negotiations for a Volvo 1800S (1968) and an AMC Javelin SST (1973) before, but walked away from both because I didn’t like the price. I sorely regret those decisions now. This was back in the 90s, when those cars were relatively cheap. They’ve appreciated considerably since.

personally I don’t think he’s a “real” AM. He has the gaping maw that is the One:77, but to me he seems to have the overall dimensions of a DBS/Vantage

Wrong body type/shape to be the One-77. He has the large grill of the one-77, but the overall body and rear are based on the DBS or Vantage. So not really, no.

They had to avoid copyright so obviously they weren’t going to directly copy the DBS.

Fair enough although I’d argue the front grill is more iconic overall as the style language of Aston Martin is shared with most if not all the models.

Also I happened across this Aston on my searches. It’s almost like they designed the dbs with knock out as the reference. IMG_0680.jpeg

This isn't exactly true. Many cars...and vehicles in G1 are 80s, but a lot of them are also 70s cars. The Countach was actually sold beginning in 1974. Jazz represents a Porsche 935/77, based on the 1977 Martini Racing Porsche 935 Group 5. The Tyrrell P34, the alt mode of Dragstrip, started racing in the 1975 F1 Season. Dead End and Wildrider are also late 70s cars...the Porsche 928 and Ferrari 308 GTB. Another F1 entry and also a late 70s car is the Ligier JS11. Also known as Mirage, this F1 car would race for the 1979-1980 season.

Rumamuck is a 1981 Pontiac Firebird, but his buddy Runabout is a 1976 Lotus Esprit Turbo. The legendary F15 Eagle, alt mode of the G1 Seekers, first flew in 1972, and was introduced into active service in 1976. Quite an old lineage of jets! Ratchet and Ironhide or Nissan Sunny Vannettes, introduced in 1978 to replace the previous generation of small Nissan vans. Overdrive of the Omnibots is a Ferrari 512 Berlinetta Boxer, sold from 1974-1984.

But yeah. Not all 80s. Some great 70s vehicles there!

Sorry i meant nothing newer than 80s

Eh like i said, the aston looks too muscular to me to be knockout. Plus whats more vein than an italian car with a “ferrari” engine

I don’t really get the sentiment as he is directly based on an Aston Martin.

Designers won’t admit they tried to copy a licensed car, but the body shape is very much that of a DBS/vantage. The rear section is shaped that way as well, though like the front they changed the actual details.

The quotations killed me. You’re not even wrong. Iirc some Maseratis have a Chrysler motor that’s been tuned or whatever by Ferrari. A polished turd is still a turd.

Edit: double checked. Turns out it’s a Ferrari block that’s made by Chrysler and then shipped to Italy for Ferrari to assemble.
