Valid. I'll be buying this, pending reviews confirming it doesn't fall at what it's attempting. It's an easy "what if?" that will slot neatly into my G1 collection.

A while back, I thought maybe the DB5 could work for Punch/Counterpunch. Because spy. And apparently the car did come in blue? (Silver is much better, but doesn't really work for P/CP.) The Lotus looks a lot more like a Fiero, but the Aston is much more iconic.

Also, just for fun: Lupin's Fiat 500 for Bumblebee. The Fiat already looks somewhat like an SD VW Bug.

And the most on-the-nose thing ever is Barbie's Corvette as Arcee. Mattel and Hasbro could team up to sue!

Lastly, for the most vain of all TFs, the Miura for Sunstreaker. It would probably also work as an idea for TFP Knock Out, but I kinda doubt they'd work as remolds since the bot modes are completely different.

I’m not. But I like Drift as a character. I like how he has one of his IDW bodies in bot mode. It’s all very neat.

I also hope all the best for MMC with this figure and hope everyone chiming in, commits to a purchase.

Part of me just wishes he was a certain way, but alas. I’ll live vicariously through your guys’ photos.

Okay but you're missing the point where the car you want is just the objectively worse car.

Good luck finding it now (and I wasn't especially fond of the headsculpt), but there was an MP sized OSKO of this some years back.

They were talking about the S15, whereas Iketani has an S13 (Silvia K as you said) on which I definitely prefer over the S14/15 but again isn't as popular and Fujiwara's Hachiroku would be more suited for the drift pun/crossover.

Funnily enough I was rewatching Fifth Stage because of the driver Hiroya Okuyama reappearing in the sequel series (MF Ghost), and I just finished watching the S15 get smoked by the 86 hahaha.

Going back to Drift, I know everyone is expecting it to have the panda livery for this release (hood is another story). Being a Drift mold everyone is expecting a Deadlock repaint/remold, ngl if they went white hood with this 1st release I wouldn't mind the Deadlock repaint would still have the panda alt mode but with the black carbon Project D hood instead of the usual black car/gold wheels of Deadlock. (especially since Deadlock still has a lot of white).

Essentially only the bot mode parts which change color.

The big sword doesn't need to be obscenely massive, just slightly larger

With all this arguing about car choice, I’ll be honest, I couldn’t give less of a shit about it being this specific car. I just really love the way drift looks and the fact the car has an interior with flip up headlights. Otherwise literally any other car would have been fine.

One of the few cars I have real nostalgia for, that I would say fits drift, is a Nissan GTR. But it’s not an 80’s car so who tf knows when we’ll get figures using it.

yeah that is the other neat thing about it being an Ae86 - its an old car and will look right at home in alt mode next to other 80s cars in a G1 mp display. in my minds, its kind of like a perfect choice.

Haha, ths 86 isn't for everyone and i'll admit the S15 is a nice car, especially modded up like that. I would happily by a transformer with that alt mode in that color too....but first we need a yellow RX-7 FD3s. Honestly, there are enough cool cars from the 80s-90s (for example an R32 nissan GT-R in black, a white rx-7 FC generation, a light green S13 silvia, a capuccino, and early Subaru WRX STI. etc etc.) that show up in initial D that don't already have G1 characters associated with them that if one were to try, one could totally make a whole toy line of. i don't think thats what most TF collectors want but i'd be totally good with that if some company wants to keep em coming. lol.

I'm not a car guy or a bond guy really, but I took one look at this and knew it would be a, "Shut up and take my money" proposition.

If anyone ever were to make a TF toy out of a DB5, I think they have to include the headlight guns. The other Bond gimmicks might be nice, but harder to pull off.
    Untitled.jpg

Also, I think there might actually be a market opportunity for someone to do TFs with classic cars (meaning 60s - early 70s cars, or even earlier) for the adult collector demographic. Historically TFs have mostly featured contemporary cars at the time, starting with late 70s - early 80s. And now with MP there's a bunch of recreations of the original 80s G1 cars. But there are a ton of beloved car designs that date from well before that haven't really been featured as TFs, and I think doing so could be a hit with a certain set of people. Like, how about movie Barricade as a 1968 Ford Mustang GT 390 Fastback, a la Bullitt?

    Kelsey-Bullitt-Mustang.jpg

I agree that MMC has been conservative with the rollout so far, but I'm guessing the timeline is a bit behind what they were originally planning. They first mentioned IF Drift in September 2018. By the time it's released, it will have been 6 years. The biggest factor has obviously been Covid, leading to MMC releasing all of 1 new mold in 2023 (ReMix Motif), but I'm guessing stuff like the long D-Zef delays and overwhelming Assaultus success (3 releases of G1 + 1 G2 so far) have contributed.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what's coming for MMC. It seems like they'll be doing nothing other than combiners in PS; Reformatted is largely in the rear view; and ReMix has never been a priority for them. They seem to have nearly 10 designs in the queue for IF, and they're never going to get through them if they're releasing a new mold once every 2 or 3 years.
