Dear Hollywood and movie writers.. STOP REMAKING GOOD MOVIES!!!

FotN is a great family film that is excellent the way it is. Good story, good acting even from the kid. Good humor and it is a clean movie the whole family can enjoy.

I expect the new kid to be a punkish brat with a smart mouth and tons of attitude. He will probably take new technology back with him and sell it or something. There will be fart jokes and the ship will now be voiced by Chris Rock.

While I liked the original, and I wasn't clamoring for a re-make, I know that re-makes/reboots don't have the capability of hurting the original work. So Hollywood can go ahead and do whatever it wants.

Some of these re-makes, though, seem so out-of-left-field, while other properties remain untouched.

I'm genuinely surprised that we have not seen another Gremlins sequel or reboot or a Highlander reboot.

Remaking a bad film, i understand... but remaking good movies aren't necessary. Hollywood has no originality, all they do is take & give very little back in return... what are they now, the government?

This doesn't suprise me at all. Considering that Hollywood has NO good writters anymore or any GOOD ideas to work from to make a movie.

Remakes are a smart business decision, since you're able to use a concept that's already proven to be an audience-draw, and are able to appeal to people who enjoyed the previous incarnation very easily.

Creatively bankrupt, but a great way to remain profitable.

As sad as it is, I think this just goes to show that for most of us, our generation has gotten old enough to see this sort of thing happen.

    There are none.
At this point the closest thing to a new idea is just doing something that's already been done, but slightly different...And not call it a reboot.

Why? The first one was a great movie. Is it really that hard for them to take a concept similar to that and make it entirely different without slapping the same name on it. I don't think this needs a remake. Ironically, I did once write an short story that had elements of Flight of the Navigator in it, but it was more serious and had more action. Why could I do that two years ago when Hollywood clearly can't.

You don't have to guess, the Deadline article confirms it.
