In the Transformers DOTM novel, the driller was an individual character, but the movie, he was refered as Shockwave. Why is that? In the novel, Optimus talked about how the Driller was a mining robot that Transformers used. But in the movie, all Optimus said was Shockwave, and said nothing about the Driller. Maybe, it's to make Shockwave look stronger. But to me, I felt like the Driller was not part of Shockwave at all. What do you all think?
Shockwave was controlling it during the Chernobly incident, so to refer to it as Shockwave would be accurate since he's directly responsible. Now when its on its own its the Driller. Epps clarifed the differance between the two during the building assault
I like the idea of the Driller being an extension of Shockwave. Something he can control remotely. Otherwise it's just a big animal/machine.
No real preference for me. In both cases, I took the Driller as little more than a Cybertronian beast of burden. The novel simply states it outright whereas the film is a bit vague on just what it is, but there's enough for the audience to figure it out.
That's sad. I'd take a good story with bland visuals over an incoherent string of special effects on a paper-thin plot anyday. Substance > Superficial
What General Magnus said! But honestly I think maybe a bit more explanation could have been given, otherwise I think the movie Driller was fine.
