I turned on my 360 the other day after about two weeks of not playing it. The rings started flashing red and I thought, "oh no, RRoD." but, the system kept going and I was able to play the game I wanted to play. The entire time I was playing the rings would flash red but you could still see the green as well. It looked like Christmas lights. It would flash on player 1, then player 2, then so on. And then it would flash 1,2,3,4 really fast so it made a circle. I shut the system off finally and then started it back up and everything was normal again.

What's going on? Is RRoD coming soon to a 360 near me?

The RROD can mean any failure sometimes it seems. I had a power surge during a thunderstorm and it caused it. Been fine ever since. Yes, I was a moron for having it plugged in at the time, but damnit I was in the middle of something!

It can be a variety of things and I am not trying to panic you but I usually get a couple red ring malfunctions before the onslaught of the three rings. So far my FOURTH xbox 360 is holding up ok but it is such a pain.

Check your A/V cables too. Sometimes you'll get these false red rings if they're loose/not pushed in all the way.

Yep. Happened to me twice before and it was because I didn't have the cable all the way in where it made the clicking sound. I was scared to death though when it happened, NO RROD!!!!

Yes. I've seen my friend get that but we didn't know about it back then. I saw that again when I was using my cousin's Xbox. (which scared the crap out of me)

    I hope it's nothing serious.

Doubt it. Like others say, the red lights mean a number of things. unless it's the three ports lit up red it's just a problem with the cables or power box. I had a full circle once, turned out the power cable wasn't in the power box all the way. Had a similar light show to the OP, as it turns out I had the A/V cables all fucked up. (usually I just leave them in, so I don't know how it happened)

I've had the RRoD for real once, but also as a false alarm twice: once when the HDD accidentally came loose, and the other time was I believe caused by overheating. When the ring flashes persistently when the console has been turned on and off multiple times, that's when it's time for a repair.
