It's that time of year again... Which was the best story of 2005? The Rules: 1. Nomination period will run from January 1st, 2006 to January 8th, 2006. 2. Please select your top 5 story arcs. 3. When nominating, remember that the story must have concluded during 2005. 4. If you change your mind during the nomination period (after rereading the stories or someone nominates one you've forgotten about), please repost your top 5 story arcs. If you post multiple top fives, I will only count the last one. 5. Once the nomination period ends, the five most popular arcs will be voted on for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Here are some options... feel free to nominate others. One shots are acceptable too. Countdown to Infinite Crisis Day of Vengence OMAC (including Superman: Sacrifice) Rann/Thanagan War Villains United DC Special: The Return of Donna Troy The Flash: Rouge War Green Lantern: Rebirth JLA: Crisis of Conscience JSA: Black Vengeance JSA: Classified #1-4 (Power Girl story) Superman/Batman: Absolute Power Teen Titans/Outsiders: Insider Astonishing X-Men: Dangerous House of M Fantastic Four: House of M Iron Man: House of M Spider-Man: House of M New Avengers: Breakout Spider-Man: Breakout Young Avengers: Sidekicks My Selection: Superman/Batman: Absolute Power Teen Titans/Outsiders: Insider JSA: Black Vengeance JSA: Classified #1-4 (Power Girl story) OMAC (including Superman: Sacrifice) Best Comic of 2004 Results
Did the new avengers come out in 2005? i just recently got the TPB. and its amazing. if it came out in 2005. then i nominate that.
Countdown to Infinite Crisis The Flash: Rogue War Green Lantern: Rebirth Batman: Under the Hood Astonishing X-Men: Dangerous
OMAC Project JSA CLassified 1-4 JLA: Crisis of Conscience Green Lantern: Rebirth Countdown to Infinite Crisis DCU has conqured my votes this year... go fig!
Captain America, Winter Solider Batman, Return of the Red Hood Countdown to Infinate Crisis JSA Classified, Power Trip Ultimates v2
The Flash: Rogue War Green Lantern: Rebirth Grim Jack: Killer Instincts Ultimates vol.2 Ferro City: The Medusa Key
Of the ones I've read... Batman: Under the Hood Ultimates v2 (to be specific, #1-6 which concerned Thor; I see it as the first arc...the current, "second" arc has not yet concluded) The Sentry (New Avengers arc) Green Lantern: Rebirth Young Avengers (the first arc) If it had finished in '05, I'd have added Daredevil: The Murdock Papers to the list as well. Damned fine comic book arc, there. Countdown to Infinite Crisis and House of M didn't make my list because they were both far too expansive, covering way too many arcs. Countdown would practically be the winner by default in this competition if allowed (House of M, on the other hand, would still be beaten by shorter, 6 issue arcs...but I disgress).
Young Avengers: 1st arc New Avengers: The Sentry Green Lantern: Rebirth House of M Astonishing X-men: Dangerous
JSA Classified 1-4 (the storyline that made me give up my Marvel-only ways and embrace DC) Villains United (fun as hell) OMAC Project (mainly for Sacrifice) Green Lantern: Rebirth Countdown to Infinite Crisis Surprisingly, for someone who only started reading DC this year, I picked storylines exclusively from that company. Why? Largely because Marvel sucked this year. Dangerous in Astonishing X-Men was a huge letdown after the first arc, and it just got worse and worse with every issue, ultimately coming to a lame ending riddled with plotholes. House of M was a major snoozefest, with absolutely nothing of any interest happening between issues 1 and 7. The best HoM tie-in, the Spider-Man one, ended up making no sense as it completely contradicted what happened to the character in the main miniseries. Iron Man HoM shouldn't even be on the list of candidates. Bad story with awful art. Not a banner year for the House of Ideas. The best thing I've seen out of Marvel this year has been Decimation, which isn't eligible since it's still ongoing. After floundering for the last year or two, it's nice to see the X-Men books have a direction again.
For single standout issues - Tales of TMNT (Vol.2) #9 (March 2005) - A heartbreaking Michelangelo story for anyone who has ever lost their pet cat.
Invincible - I just finished reading the 5 TPB's, and each one is better than the last. Just great, great storytelling. Walking Dead - Again, just fantastic. Ultimates 2 - a really fun roller coaster ride. Ultimate Fantastic 4's Crossover arc - the birth of Marvel Zombies. Yay!
I can really only do 3 of my favorites of this year Astonishing X-Men angerous Green Lantern:Rebirth Wolverine:Enemy Of the State
Gold Digger: Oblivion/Black Gate All I can really say is HOLY CRAP! I know I say it alot, but Gold Digger is one of the best written comics I've read in an extremely long time. Fred Perry is one hell of a writer.
Those of you nominating "Winter Soldier," Primal said the Arc had to have ended in 2005, and the final part hasn't come out yet... I nominate: Green Lantern: Rebirth OMAC (including Superman: Sacrifice) JSA: Classified #1-4 (Power Girl story) JLA: Crisis of Conscience Batman, Return of the Red Hood
New Avengers first arc. Young Avengers first arc also. Captain America Winter Soldier House of M Countdown to infinite Crisis If only Ghost Rider had finished in time, it is amazing so far.
See, I'm thinking we shouldn't include Countdown, unless you're referring to the one-shot in which Beetle gets axed. If we're referring to the ACTUAL Countdown to Infinite Crisis, aren't we also referring to all of OMAC Project, Villians United, et al.? Much as I love Countdown, it doesn't seem fair to stack it up against arcs like Batman's "Red Hood." EDIT: And, is House of M the actual HoM 8-issue series, or the whole HoM *event*?
They're all seperate, if you check out my first post, you'll see I listed them all individually... and yes 'Countdown to Infinite Crisis' is refering to the one-shot issue where BB gets shot.
