I'm not a huge fan of either look, but I don't think the "stretchy metal" approach we're accustomed to would work out any better for cinema. The earlier approach was probably closer to what they should go with... mostly just needed fewer exposed gaps and slightly more recognizable features. But only a few of us asked for that. Most of us asked for them to be more "human".

Mix of both. The human-like faces work well for bots who get more time to interact with other characters like Lockdown, Crosshairs, Drift, and Hound because human-like faces are easier to read emotionally for us humans. I actually wish Hot Rod had a face more like Crosshairs. I really like how Optimus Prime's face is more visually expressive now.

However, I think for more stoic or mysterious or beastly characters less human-like faces work well, with Soundwave, Shockwave, and the Dinobots being good examples.

In summary, the more main cast should be more human-like to show their emotions, like the main Autobots, Megatron/Galvatron, and Lockdown, because I like it when we can see emotions in their visual expressions, but the minor characters or more stoic or mysterious or animalistic ones should be less human-like.

    This is true.
For my personal taste, movies 1-3 were my favorites. Not counting Que.
Decepticons like monsters? So you probably wouldn't like the dreads.

There will never be a movie that will satisfy both sides.
Drift is a cybertronian, yes, but A mix of two aesthetics would benefit his car design more. For example more robotic face.
For my taste he shouldn't look too human. Some people may favor his human face, I don't.

Yup. The bias is strong. I also want to point out how people complained about Demolisher and Rampage but then complained at Lockdown. I would try and make a case about the ends of the spectrum but, people complained about all the other designs too. Basically, unless everyone is a boxy window-chest bot with a liquid metal face nothing will work. How is it that every single incarnation can get away with a human face but the films can't? And people who defend the films are made to look foolish when they say that some who don't like the films don't are unreasonable.

I think the Decepticons faces should be less monstrous, that's all.

    Pretty much this.

Never had a problem with the human like-faces. It is weird that after Hound, Drift and Crosshairs they went with that design for Hot Rod but even he's a nice lookin Bot. I had more of an issue of the robot modes not having much vehicle kibble but I can get over that since models are pretty nice-looking given what they are. The only Bayverse designs I truly hate were the Twins, Arcee and Que.

And thus we've come full circle.

10 years ago: We hate these alien faces! They should look like G1 human faces!

Now: We hate human faces! They should be alien!

Then they will look friendly, like the Autobots. I don't want that.

they felt foreign on tf1 and very well made. Blackout,Brawl,Bonecrusher,Starscream, ironhide,Optimus,Jazz etc. They look interesting enough. the placement of vehicle parts so brilliant. Tf2 Mixmaster,Demolishor,Sideswipe except those recycled protoforms and stupid twins. all are well designed. I love those designs and still growing in me. it's like an old good music. Not just trying fit into whatever trend that there is. And of course why would they need human face on cybertron? This is suppose to be a realistic movie cartoon. i hate the fact that Lockdown's eyebrows and forehead moves like a rubber if you noticed. the scene when he captures Optimus.

It's always been a mix of both, so that. If anything, I'd just prefer they make them look like one solid piece, the weird mish-mash of metal with puffy lips thing is super ugly.

I don't care if G1 did some of this at times; I was there; what works in a cartoon/comic is different to a movie:

No to alien insect monster faces.

Yes to angular, stylized faces that correlate proportionately to those of humans.

No to nostrils, facial hair, fleshy lips, ears, jowls, cleft chins.

Yes to mobile faces made up of aesthetically pleasing arrangement of plates and sliding panels capable of simplified human expressions.

No to bendy rubber metal faces.

Yes to abstract shapes that suggest or evoke human headdress without getting detail specific.

No to obvious representations of human headress and other garments.

I don't mind the designs of the faces, but I don't want the design get too much carried away. I like Megatron's new face since his expressions are more definable now.

How about not ugly designs, it's like the designers are shooting hideous for some reason.

They're shooting for recognizability. In world of less robot screen-time, they rely on extreme designs and quirks for robots to stand-out. Now, I don't mind getting cooler designs like TLK Megatron but I also think not everyone needs to look pretty.

Disregarding the quality, TLK was the first film to get qualities of both sides of the argument. We had characters like Dreadbot who had alien-like features and we also had characters like Barricade with more a humanoid appearance. This proves we're never going to reach a full positive census on this argument.

I respect you're preference absolutely and I don't necessarily favour the more humanoid faces, but I don't think they're a problem, look bad, or fall out of Transformer common lore.

I'll tell you one thing, they're a damn sight better than the TF1 Autobot faces. Even Prime had some weird shit going on with his nose and lips and shit (Ironhide grew on me however!)

One thing though, if we're gonna have Autobots leading a movie in the future, they're gonna need those homosapienesque faces to emote to the crowd. At least until they work out how to write an effing script!

Yes and no. The monstrous and violent seibertronians will naturally fall to Megatrons side, but remember its a civil war, they're the same race. Theres no reason not to expect that bots who came off the same line as, say.. ratchet, would hear Megatrons call for rebellion and join the cons. Indeed, TLK seems to include more than one Autobot constructicon!
