    Look at it like Transformers.

    "Mikaela", a character we never heard of in Transformers "lore", was the main love interest of "Sam" or "Spike" Witwicky. It's not until the THIRD movie now that the love interest that makes up the backbone of the story of the original Spike is introduced.

    Sadly, it means in the Spider-Man world, Mary Jane Watson will probably be a background character for a few years while Spider-Man checks out new ladies. You'll see this mirrored in the comics, any cartoon show, and in action figures.

    Fine by me, as long they cast a girl who's better looking than Kirsten Dunst (shouldn't be hard to do).

    Given that, when Peter accidentally hits Mary Jane in Spidey 3, the audience in a lot of theaters CHEERED, this is probably a good idea. I enjoy MJ in the comics and various TV series, but they just did a horrible job with her in the movies, IMO.

    The article does not specifically say "No MJ". It just says they are not saying what character they are trying out for, similar to the way they handled Kevin Bacon for the new X-Men movie until yesterday.

    I like MJ also but it's nice that they're doing things right. However They'll probably kill her off in 2nd or 3rd film and bring in MJ. You never know they might change there mind later, But Gwen Stacy......HAWT DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bay

    Erm...how can Gwen Stacy be 'hawt damn' if you have no idea of who they are casting? (unless you are referring to Bryce Dallas Howard who I personally thought was superb casting in Spidey 3). In the comics MJ is supposed to be an uber fiesty MODEL, something that was almost entirely reversed for the movies where she became a simpering doormat.

    Agreed. To bad they can't cast someone for Spider Man thats not going to be pushing 30 by the time the film comes out.

    Ya know, this reminds me of an issue of Spiderman I did, where Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy are out shopping, and the Goblin comes in and just pumpkin bombs the hell out of the place.
