This could persuade me into getting a PlayStation 4. I love space and things like exploring and sightseeing. This seems like the exact kind of thing that would draw me in and probably give many hours of entertainment.
I'm also in the "interested, but skeptical" camp. Procedurally-generated content, with little to no ability to permanently impact the worlds you visit, could make for a rather sparse gameplay experience. Hopefully this won't boil down to grinding the same five activities amongst a variety of beautiful, but superficial backdrops.
I have it pre-ordered. I have a huge backlog of stuff that I still have to play. The wait won't affect me.
Still kinda pissed. I had a 3 day weekend, and was intending to play the shit out of this game, but now with the stupid delay...
So, anybody played the game yet? I did try at midnight for a few minutes, game takes some getting used to
I played about 3-4 hours of it last night. SO COOL I probably spent most that time just on the first planet I was on. It was super fun having to roam around and search and gather stuff to repair your ship and your equipment. It made it that much more challenging because I was spawned on a planet with some harsher conditions. The planet was around -50 to -75 degrees celsius so I had to do what I could to find the materials I needed without straying too far from my ship or I would freeze to death! But I named my first planet, got my ship flying, and then took off into space and checked out the remaining 3 planets [and the space station] in my solar system. Towards the end of my playtime I did my first warp to another star system and did a quick land on one of the 5 new planets. This game is absolutely incredible. I can see how playing it might become a grind/be a bit repetitive but honestly what fuels me most is just thinking about the sheer scope of the game. That the whole thing, everything we see and every planet *we'll never see* is all created based on procedural tech/mathematical algorithms. That just blows my mind. And the fact that there's no load times or anything like that. That you can literally see a planet and witness yourself enter its atmosphere and see the landscape take shape without any loading or cut scene trickery just never gets old [it reminds me of that old leaked Battlefront 3 footage where you were fighting on the ground and could fly up and now you'd be in the space battles. It was that level of "wow" and "cool"]. And the fact that space is HUGE. I saw a point of interest floating about in space and it was a space station. And the estimated time of arrival at my current speed would be a week. A WEEK to literally fly there. I mean, thankfully there's FTL and warp but wow. The scope of this game boggles my mind. And thats what'll keep me coming back. To see what else could be out there. [and the game is beautiful, to boot! space looks amazing, the planets look amazing FROM space and they look amazing up close and on the ground as well. Lots of variety and the colors; wow. I see this, personally, being a great tool for inspiration in the comics that I make. Just the different planets and the different color combos and all that. Its pretty awesome. I've attached some screenshots I took of my first planet and stuff :3
I really want to like this game. It has a lot of good ideas but the inventory management is a mess. Exploring planets is still fresh and fun and I'd like to do more of that without having to juggle 6-7 different elements in my exosuit and ship menus. Increasing max stacks and being able to stack similar items like the green items would go a long way.
Played for about 3 hours. Game is really awesome. Didn't let me down. My first planet was really scary. The life forms on there were creepy. Imagine a cow with legs of a spider. I finished by landing on a new plant.
Yeah. I haven't played it yet, but I love that they took inspiration from a lot of vintage sci-fi art work for their art style. It really feels more unique to have these blue savannahs and red forests instead of just having planets with environments that look similar to our own.
