The big difference was the loss of their offensive lineman ( Johnson) to a 10 game PED suspension. The O-Line wasn't the same after he was out.

    Stafford to Denver?

Coughlin, Marrone and the Jags GM all have been signed or extended to a three year deal, thus they are all in it together.

Kyle Shanahan must be pissed right now. He said last week that he was most interested in coaching there, and his father worked with them before too. I'm betting he goes to San Diego now. Even though the Chargers have had a bad record the last few years. They really haven't been a bad team. They just keep losing in spite of having great players on offense and defense. I think the opportunity to work with Philip Rivers would be enticing to him too.

The two least appealing coaching jobs in the NFL right now in my opinion are the Rams and 49ers. There is just so much wrong with both teams and their management. If you don't fix San Francisco, you could be out of a job quickly. The Rams have the weakest offense in the NFL, and Todd Gurley wasn't kidding when he said it was like high school. They have to really rework it, and I don't think that will happen quickly.

And that's also assuming Jared goff isn't a bust which he looks like he is.

Based on what I have read Vance was the 2nd option two years ago when Elway hired Kubiak. After hiring Kubiak they offered him the D.C. position but since it wasn't a head coaching position Cincinnati didn't have to let him out of his contract as Defensive Backs coach.

In addition, I think Elway is more concerned with keeping the defense in top form (Vance defensive coach) and thus can get a top O.C candidate such as Mike McCoy who was O.C during Elway's first year as GM/VP.

Exactly. I hate the move because I would rather have the Raiders move back to L.A. instead of possibly going to Las Vegas.

Well, looks like L.A. now has two (at the moment) shitty teams. (With the Chargers being less shitty)

How did La go from having no teams to two teams in less than 2 years?

I hate that LA has two teams now. I don't think they are going to care much more than San Diego, and really what it came down to is that LA can pay for a new stadium while San Diego cannot. LA just doesn't strike me as a football city even though there were teams there before.

Speaking of LA, the Rams just hired Sean McVay as their new head coach. It could be a decent move since he really helped Kirk Cousins. However, it remains to be seen if he has what it takes to be a great head coach. The move could be even better if they get Wade Phillips to be their defensive coordinator. Apparently he has interviewed with them and the Redskins. The Rams actually have a pretty good defense. They kinda gave up halfway through the season, but their defense is the main reason they have any wins at all this year. It's a good start to bring in an offense guy and a defense guru. Denver should probably find a way to keep Wade though since he's not running off to be a head coach again.

looks like San Diego will now be the boogey man to try to scare cities into building new stadiums.

I saw a news report that cities are going to have to start building billion dollar stadiums now to keep the fans entertained aside from the game itself. You can thank Jerry Jones and that stadium he built for that.

The Chargers get a new city and coach today. They announced that Anthony Lynn will be their new head coach. I'm not sure about this one. He was most recently the interim coach for the Bills, and they looked utterly pathetic in that game against a terrible Jets team this year. Plus, his offensive style is more run heavy than I think San Diego is used to in recent years. Granted, they're keeping the same offensive coordinator.

LA didn't pay for the new stadium, Steve Kronke the owner of the Rams paid for the stadium all by himself. The same is true for Jerry Jones as he paid for his stadium as well.

The new stadium in Las Vegas, however, is being paid for by tourists as the city/state have passed an increase on hotel taxes that will pay for a $750 million dollar stadium.

The sad part of the Chargers move is they have to pay the NFL (i.e the other 31 owners) a $500 million dollar relocation fee but they never considered using any of that money to help pay for a new stadium in San Diego.

There are still plenty of cities available for the NFL to use as leverage.
    St. Louis
    San Antonio
    Oklahoma City
    Portland
    Las Vegas
    London
    Toronto

I still think Jacksonville will be the next team to move after Oakland.

Regardless, the smaller market teams won't have the kind of money needed for these lavish stadiums that are being built now. Plus, it's going to raise already ridiculous high ticket prices.
