Finally got mine. Love these things.
They need to eat some energon to grow, with BC Insecticons these are hatchlings.
They say insects are the food of the future, Trypticon is a Cybertronian innovator.
They've shipped out and while I have a smidge of experience with 3DPrinted stuff I'll def stick to the instructions.
Now to get that Soundwave...
Freakin' finally! I swear my orders from China are just getting slower and slower. Took a while for Baba to get them in stock, then had to wait through figuring out which model I wanted (the one from the listing I actually ordered) and then the eternal shipping from China to here but now I finally get to join the Insecticon party. I won't bother offering impressions since those have been well and truly covered by this point; instead I'll just say they're great and I love them.
First set of bugs landed. The cubes were a little tacky, but I washed them with a little dish soap and now they're fine. Probably just a little mould release oil or something *shrug*
Just got a notice the toon version will arrive today on my doorstep. Hope they do in the next hour, after that I have to leave and don't know if my neighbours are home and will be late back and can't knock on their door then.
My G1 display of DX9/Newage is based on the toon versions, but prefer the toy versions color, think the toon versions are going to join the multiverse display but a little voice in my head keeps saying I'm breaking the integrity of the display.
Edit: they just arrived
Now that I have them in my hands and compare them I like the gray on the toon version more than the black on the toy version. Inmiss the purple stripe on the chest of Bombshell, always liked that design, it made Bombshell stick a little bit more out with his bro's who have the big antenna or wings.
Toon version going in the toon display. Toy version or going in the multiverse display or in insect mode in the toon display.
Hope they do the Diaclone version. Skipping on the translucent ones.
And of course more energon cupes, love these little cupes, far better than the KFC ones which I don't use.
Thanks for the side-by-side picture.
The choice to use flat grey plastic on the cartoon version instead of silver is really disappointing, and it just looks like shit.
I was seriously considering getting a set, because they do (otherwise) look great, but this just kills the set for me. I'm going to wait to see what Magic Square does for the Insecticons.
Holy moly, thank you for the pics!
I was debating a toon set as my leaders, and maybe even another toy set to swap in the metallic parts on the toon guys, but the difference in purple would have drove me bonkers. I hadn't picked up on it in previous pics, but it's pretty apparent here.
I still like their darker gray over the black. It shows off the detail better.
^Glad I went with the toy colors now, the purple with the black and yellow really pops compared to the toon accurate versions. They both look awesome however, so kudos to you sir for having both sets.......
two sets of purple and one set gray should be a nice mix.
are the gray ones on ebay yet?
Probably sacrilege to say, but I honestly (until now) never noticed the toy colors and cartoon colors for the Insecticons were not the same. I think I prefer the original toy colors as that's what fits my memory of the characters.
These are cool but unless there's a good sale on ebay or these otherwise end up on sale, I'm just not interested enough to pounce on them right now. If they sell out instead, so be it. They aren't characters I'm overly fussed about but I do admire how well New Age did them.
When the first, the toy version, arrived I really liked them and thought the toy version would be lesser. And then the toon version arrived and that concept was swept under the rug.
On a few sites selling this figures they are using the same picture for the toon and toy version, even the name for the figures are sometimes the same.
Magic Square insecticons!? Where??... oh Damn...
Hey can anyone point me in the direction of small enough decepticon labels that will fit these guys? It's really only kickback and shrapnel I'm having trouble with.
I used the Toyhax WST clear backed symbols. The smaller ones on Kickback and Shrapnel and slightly larger one Bombshell.
Many thanks dude! Took your advice and ordered myself a set.
