You all know how that song goes. The effect parts cannot plug into anywhere other than the sole of his feet (or his wrists I never tried.), but I managed to use them more creatively.


Box and contents. The box is approximately 1.5 times the height of usual Newage carbots.


Car mode in comparison with H8T (I do not have H8) and SS86. tbh the car mode is stupidly short but very stupidly wide, even wider than Prime.



Robot mode, and damn does his face look so dumb.
Also if I am not mistaken, his toes are made of die-cast metal, which adds to the heft of this figure.


His white is almost the same as other Newage white bots (SG Bumblebee/Bug Bite, Magnus, SG Megs), and his chest window is lighter in color but less clear than Magnus's.

Robot mode with H8T and SS86.


And interactions with Prime, TW Wheeljack and Super Make's bed. Could be considered one of the few redeeming qualities of H52.

Overall, sorry but this remake is not as good as I would expect from Newage.
Also I see no point in including that platform in SG Ratchet other than increasing the price. Newage is just lazy this time.

 

I don't know what you'd do with the sled at the best of times, surf on it? That expression looks like 'Kid that just woke up in math class as the teacher asks him a question'.

I hope they're not getting lazy on the alt-modes, it was one of the things that made them stand out from Magic Square. MS V1 and NA V2 Ratchet vehicles both look like badly drawn animation stills.

 

At least the whites aren't as awful as Jetfire!

I mentioned it to ShowZ, but after three months they failed to get any reply from NA about it. So I bought a second copy and it was much the same! Maybe ShowZ got a bad batch? Fortunately, I was able to sell one of the two (with full disclosure about the paint). So I'm a bit wary about painted white figures now. I should check if the 'F' version of Jetfire has paint...

 

This was a pretty frequently discussed issue back when they first released it. It isn't an isolated issue, all copies are like this. Unfortunately that's just what happens when you try to paint over red plastic (or any dark coloured plastic) with white paint. The F version is essentially identical to the original outside of swapping out diecast for nylon, so you'll still have the same issue. Iirc, the only version that fixes this is the shattered glass deco.

 

Robot mode seems pretty decent in actual photos, but that alt mode... Yuck. Can't think of any other NewAge vehicle looking as wonky and out of whack.

 

I’m only in for the gold versions and hoping they ditch the platform.

yeah, bad colour matching, but at least that white paint on the red plastic was necessary. this extra coating on ironhide was not. also, this is supposed to be a regular release and this extra pearl coat should have been left for say an EXR version like jetfire. i've had my gripes with NA releases in the past, but this is by far the worst.

That open mouth face is probably my biggest issue with the figure. It looks a little ridiculous imo and its been getting worse recently with Grapple and Jetfire too. Their headsculpts look so good otherwise but I can't get past the open mouth.

 

I think it’s partly that we already had a good van bros mold from Newage, and partly because it’s not a clear upgrade.I’d also say it sets a dangerous precedent that the alt mode is toon mushiness, rather than the real vehicle.

I was looking forward to a real Lamborghini Countach, Jeep, Toyota truck, Corvette Stingray etc for the remaining carbots. Are they all going to be rounded abstractions now, in service of toon accurate bots? They’ve lost a customer if they do, and I expect I’m not the only one. I go to Magic Square for that.

 

the alt mode I 100% understand

but cmon that first van mold robot mode is TERRIBLE the wonky proportions, small head, kibble and panels everywhere. the robot mode on this one is infinitely better

Looks like the new Alt mode will scale better with their v2 BB.

 

To me basically vehicle mode is trash, even customizing didn´t help as I hoped and lack of detail in robot mode (I hate large plain panels for robots even if cartoon accurate) but that I manage to solve by painting and drawing machanical details over it, but really alt mode is the worst and due to nylon plastic it never tabs right too, happens with any blocky alt mode from MS like both their Primes.

I do agree with that though, V1 alt mode was the best as far as legends go and I´d say that for all earth based alt modes from NA (Arcee's alt mode is horrible though, really really bad).

I liked V1 bot modes, they felt mechanical enough and had the vehicle parts well distributed, a bit too skinny for ironhide though. My only reason to not keep those is size, I´d take an OSKO of this mold over V2 easily.

 

That’s odd, the vans were the only figures who ever gave me trouble in that area, and it was mainly due to mold flashing. A little knife work and they transform a-ok. Sounds like you got a bum rap with your MS stuff though, sorry to hear that.
