EX is the toy

Same as Soundwave and Megatron. Shockwave's toy was a darker purple than his cartoon representation.

 

Except that the toy was an even darker, bluer shade of purple than the EX, and had silver parts instead of light grey.

EX is "different" than the regular release but it sure isn't very toy-based.

 

Lavendarwave is the toon with the anime blue on the face and lighter purple. EX is some comic/toy hybrid, and I say hybrid because he doesn't have silver thighs or a gold painted eye.

 

I also consider EX to be toon, but its color is not spot on. The lavender color just does not work for me at all.

 

I consider EX toon. The light lavender color of the toy never happened on the toon. I think The lavender color happened because of the toys and people assumed it was animation accurate.



This is the infamous still from the show. That color isn’t no where near lavender. The EX paint is closer to reflecting this shot. Plus EX title from Newage is used on a lot of things. EX insecticons are toon accurate.

My EX in hand

 

Got my EX version today. What a glorious Shockwave! The purple really came out well imo, I like how it looks in hand better than the promo pics. Less shiny so he fits in better. Awesome Shockwave! Gives me the 80s G1 feels. I am in love with this figure

Nice, did you swap out the LED or just pain the bulb transparent red?

 

I painted the interior lens as well as the back of the chest. Painted the eye stalk platinum, then transparent red on top of that. I'm thinking of smoking the clear wrist and cannon arm to match dark quakeblast, but that might just make him too dark overall.

 

He looks great. His stock eye doesn't stand out well.

I didn't realize he has lightup features. Where's the compartment for batteries?

 

My Shackwave came in yesterday, so I'm happy. Normally I wouldn't be this excited to have a plain gray redeco of anything in-hand, but pre-TF Shockwave was something I was worried would get forgotten and ignored, so getting the GS Galactic Man redeco and now this guy has me very happy and relieved. Now if we could just get a MP redeco...

I tend to consider the EX version a mini-MP-29+, which really is just "toon version for the shots where he was darker." Like MP-29+, it's really only a toy version by default because it's darker and maybe as close as we get to a toy release without an alternate option, unless Newage pivots and does yet another redeco. I'm just glad the EX got announced as the same time as normal Cyclops, instead of well after the fact like MP-29 and 29+.

I do wish at least the EX and Shackwave versions came with extra, clear hands to go with the clear gun hand though, and/or an extra non-clear gun hand. Oh well, it's a minor thing.

I wonder if we could still get an Action Master version though.

The gun hand doesn't come out anyway, but it would have been nice to get an extra right hand or two!

Nice shots! It is kind of a shame the light piping was poorly executed. Takes a laser pointer to get the light to bounce out of there lol. I did end up smoking the clear wrist and gun hand. I'll put up a couple of pics in a little bit. Would really work well in photos like yours. Adds just a little depth and gloss that would pop with your white background.

 

Where's my Shattered Glass deco?!?

 

Another mould completed (unless they tack on some more at a later date, like they did with the Datsuns and the Seekers). Added the two Newage Alternator Shockwaves as a bonus.

 

Yeah... until there's:

• Gold version
• G2/Action Master
• Energon colors?

 

Snapped a few shots while the sun was out of Shackwave with the smoked laser hand and wrist.

 

Usually the gold version (if there is one) is announced at the same time (or close to) the regular version. Maybe they stopped doing the gold ones due to lack of popularity? A few of their recent moulds (Galvatron, Bee/Cliff, and now Shockwave) are still to have gold repaints.
