It is. You can pop the head off and then fit a tiny screwdriver into the clear piece and separate it from the main part of the head. I'm going to paint mine as well. I went with gold for MS but I think I'm going straight yellow with this one. Love both bots.

Cool, thanks for the tip. I painted the MS Shockwave's eye and will do so for the NA as well now that I know it can easily be disassembled. I find it exceedingly stupid of both MS and NA to botch the light piping on Shockwave in the exact same manner. As far as I know they most of their other figures do not have light piping, so they clearly did it on purpose to give Shockwave a "light up" eye. But it simply do not work if you put a big ball-joint right behind the eye, no matter how big of a clear piece you have behind the eye.

When someone has disassembled the head and painted the eye please post pics on how you did it! I love my New Age figures and don’t want to accidentally break anything.

I’m assuming just a hairdryer on the head for a few seconds, pop the head off, and then using a blunt object against a towel push the mono eye from the front until it pops out?

I want to get full paint coverage on the eye not just the front (I’m picky lol).

I just pulled the head right off and pried the translucent eye piece out with a spudger. I’m trying yellow paint first.

Got my standard version in. In most ways he's great and has the solid NewAge feel. But there are some weird choices:

-the dead eye, as others have mentioned
-the blue paint around it instead of black (or even dark purple) both clashes and doesn't make the eye pop visually
-the translucent wrist cuff, with no transparent hand to go with it? Huh?
-that pin joint on his back that uses transparent plastic has has me worried... I've had NA transparent plastic disintegrate on me before

So my first impressions are that he is a nice, but flawed, figure. Haven't had a chance to transform him yet, though.

Which NA figures had disintegrating clear plastic? I have quite a few NA figure but don’t think I’ve seen that yet. I’d like to keep an eye on the ones that might have this issue. Thanks.

Painted my eye silver so it was shiny and then painted a clear yellow over it so it was a shiny yellow. Post pics later.

For me, the transparent car-mold Shockwave (the Jazz repaint). Went to turn the head the first time and the neck joint just crumbled to bits. Haven’t bought a transparent NewAge figure since except for Ghost Starscream (who has been fine). But I do remember reading that they changed their transparent plastic to make it stronger at some point. Maybe it’s fine now and I’m just bring over-cautious...

It's a slippery slope. NA Lucifer (Starscream) was my first legends figure...I have all the NA cons now and some Autobots. You will love it.

I can agree with most of this and I still love the figure the transformation is great (live hiding the gray gun barrel part) but there are some strange choices for sure. And that same piece worries the heck out of me. The clear plastic on my Hodor (gold/black Starscream) crumbled out of the package. Not fun for a pricey figure.

    Still LOVE IT.

See above for my experience. I'm not a clear plastic fan anyway due to fragility but this was really bad.

    Man, he looks so awesome.
I'm gonna renew my regular plea for someone to upsize this mold to voyager.

This guy’s pretty perfect. Everything I want from a G1 Shockwave of any size.
