Hey guys I have something interesting to show you: the prototype of Shinning Magnus (and was probably used to take product shots).

He comes in a bag, and has a written "Time of Great Sorrow", which is a line from the Marvel adaptation of TFTM, and it is exactly where this version came from.
Unlike the actual product, the prototype is looser, just like the toon version.




Robot mode, and it is deeper in color compared with its mass produced counterpart.
Also, proof that it is a prototype: the missile launchers are the same type as H28G and the product shots.


I do not know if you can see from my pic, but while the translucent parts are deeper, the painted yellow parts are actually lighter in color.


And pay attention to their toes. The prototype's toes have red above yellow (same as the product shots), and the actual product's toes are the opposite, which is more G1 toy accurate.


Then the screws on their thighs.
Left (actual product): flat screws
Right (prototype): round screws
You can also see that the protype's yellow paint is lighter, evn lighter than the nylon parts on the top of the cab.

Also I have 2 other prototypes: Elita-1 and Straxus.


Straxus is deeper than the actual product. Yeah he has a quote, too.



Then Elita-1's quote. She has no lipstick applied, just as in the product shots.
In hand, it is really the actual product that looks nicer.

very cool, thx for sharing! i'm glad they went lighter yellow for the shinning armour. but i quite like the darker blue on straxus.  

 

Super cool stuff. I think I actually prefer the prototype colors for all three! Especially Elita-1.

 

So cool. Does the magnus armor glow like the production versions?

Huh, folks have speculated (and I think NA even stated) that NA touches up their promo shots, so that they look different from the actual product we get in our hands, but these prototypes are a clear indication that it's not just changing the color balance of the photos or whatever; the actual prototypes have different color paint, too. Would be interesting to see the prototypes for G2 and SG Grimlock, since there was a lot of disappointment with the retail product's colors being very different from the colors in the promo shots.

 

OMG that's so neat! Thanks for sharing. Proto Piss Magnus must smell like a public bathroom lol. I think I prefer the darker proto Straxus over what we got; that deeper blue's quite pretty.

Quick question, after transforming to bot mode, I feel like foot part is missing something. I see the back of white foot can peg into the blue panel but towards the front of the white foot near the toe theres another peg that doesn't go anywhere. Does the blue panel just flap over like that? Doesn't seem secure on that part of the foot unless I'm missing something. Thought to ask on here.





Really happy to have this guy, Newage is killing it with these pieces. I started with the Toon and Toy version of Grimlock and then Jetfire and now I'm sucked in the rabbit hole for Newage Legend figures lol

The back part of the panel should keep it secure enough. The front part "peg" is more just a kind of guide and doesn't connect securely into the foot. As long as nothing is flopping around loose, it should be fine.

 

Does anyone know of a Sixshot figure that will scale well with this guy? I recently found the Jinbao one but it looks like he's sold out everywhere.

MechFansToys did a KO upscaled version of him which I no longer have. As I recall, his head would be about the same height as Magnus', which to me was too tall.

 

Same height works for me! Just checked my local store and they have it for $35. I might pull the trigger. Thanks!

Hmm he seems a bit taller than Magnus, doesn't he? I'm not very familiar with the cartoon so I don't know the scale but was Sixshot supposed to be taller than him?

Also can't wait for that IF Magnus reissue. Secured my pre-order months ago. He's probably going to be my deskbot for a long time once I have him.

 

Gosh, yes, he's taller than I remembered! Maybe I was thinking of the top of his head compared to Magnus' "horns".

I swapped MFT for IF because I don't think Sixshot should be so much bigger than the others.

 

I agree! Sixshot strikes me as someone who fights using his agility instead of his size so although I wouldn't mind if he's neck and neck with UM in terms of height, I would prefer if he's shorter. Like I just imagine him being very flexible and utilizing his multiple modes during battle.

 

I wish NA offered the various “Core Primes”, sans trailer armor. I’d love to have the blue, yellow, and white ones. The only armored-up version that really interests me is Delta Magnus, but I missed out on it upon release and now can’t find one at a reasonable price.

But those inner robots? Offer those in a three-pack and I’m there.
