Ok I'll confess, I dont read the current X-Men, but I use to read em every month back in the day. (started with issue 205, Barry Windsor Smith Wolverine solo issue.) So when the new Wizard gave a 3 page preview of the new X-Men villian from the upcoming arc, my intrest was piqued. In the article, they said he tied to the formation of the "new" X-Men in giant size #1. Looking at the shadowy pics, I think this guy is wearing one of the old ani-men costumes from giant sized #1, so that ties him to that issue. Also he seems to be a powerful teleketic, or an energy manipulator. (He said, "I only shut the current off to her brain for a few seconds.")
So I call on all the comic readers here to help figure out who this guy could be. :thumb

There's a new X-Men villain? About damn time. There hasn't been a strong new villain for the X-Men since Cassandra Nova, and she was pretty much just a one-shot. Plus we've got Apocalypse dead and Magneto's gone nice again. The X-Men have had to resort to fighting dinosaur people, giant space plants, and a robotic Danger Room. They need someone new in their rogues gallery.

My bet is it's Unus the Untouchable. Yeah, he's older than Giant Size (going all the way back to #8), but it looked like him, and he seemed to have some forcefield that turned Cyke's beam back on him. But I'm just wildly guessing.

I would certainly hope not. He was in Excalibur for most of it's run, and he was nothing more than embarrassing comic relief. To go from that to a major X-villian would seem like a fairly large leap. Plus I don't think he has the power to shut off peoples' minds.

Apoc is never truly dead. He's pretty much immortal. I'm sure he's in a tank regenerating somewhere.

Didn't read it myself, but from what i understand Cable and Jean exorcised his spirit from Cyke's body and Cable killed it with his "Psimitar" (which is a horribly silly name for a weapon, if you ask me). So yeah, Poccy's considered pretty much dead for good. No body, no spirit.

And Magsy went all nice again in the justifiably short-lived Excalibur series from last year. Whether or not it'll stick after House of M, we'll just have to wait and see.

The last time I heard of Magneto was right after he revealed himself as being Xorn and tried to take over Manhattan and Cyke shot him in the face. What happened after that?

Magneto, under the influence of the drug Kick (which was an aerosol form of Sublime, a sentient mold) kills Jean Grey and gets decapitated by Wolverine.

Then in the new EXCALIBUR comic it turns out that the Magneto who was killed wasn't the real one and that the real one was in Genosha all along.

Then it turned out that a Xorn really did exist: he was in a prison cell and had a twin brother... who was the one who turned himself into Magneto and got possessed by Sublime.

Basically Magneto is alive again because Chris Claremont is a hack.

Nope. Magneto is alive again because Marvel didn't want him to be dead and Claremont got stuck with him. If it hadn't been Chris, it would've been Whedon or Austen. It really seems like Marvel has absolutely no respect for anything Morrison did when he was writing New X-Men. Magneto and Xorn are back, Emma is turning evil again, the huge mutant population boom is getting undone... It's like Morrison shouldn't have even bothered doing anything, since it's all getting retconned. :(

    Good.

Mags good, Xorn, could care less. Crappy character.

    Good. About friggin time.

One of the absolute WORST fucking things that hack Morrison did to help fuck up the X-Universe.

Again, good. It's no secret I despise Morrison's run on X-Men. He *can* be one talented writer. I love his work over at DC, but his work on X-Men was the lowest point of his career. He totally fucked up the X-Universe for a few years. He had one or two entertaining stories, the rest were just bland garbage. Anything they can do to fix what he completely fucked up is fine by me.

This is why I hate the current X-men comics. The ending of Morrison's run was just amazing, then they bring magneto back the very same month over in excalibur. Totally ruined the brave new tomorrow arc.

I personally am looking forward to some sort of return by apocalypse. I always enjoyed his turning up here in there in various X-titles leading into giant earth shaking crossovers. I guess its redundant at this point, but for me its more entertaining than the junk marvel is putting out now.

Ditto, really. I still think it's a pity that everything he did is being chucked in the bin, though. I know I'd hate it if I spent a couple years working on a story and the second I end it a bunch of other guys came along and started undoing it all.

Quoted for truth. So did Jean die, come back again, and then die again in Endsong?
