So a modern Xena, with traditional "Wonder Woman"-esque details?

Good. The further removed this is from the classic character, the easier it is to ignore.

Here's hoping this crashes and burns, and when Diana/Wonder Woman appears on the big screen (in Justice League), she will be done right.

You mean more than just a walking cleavage and ass shot?
Because considering our track record with female super heroines, I don't have high hopes for her there, either...

Smallville worked because Clark had a normal teenage life for the most part, Wonder Woman never left the island till Steve Trevor crashed on it. Arrow works because they have no teen hijinks. It's sad when the 70's series can be closer to the character than any of the modern attempts. Stop trying to reinvent the wheel CW, just make a story about the actual character your supposed to be basing the show on. If you can't don't make the show. Or pick a character that work with the concept you want to make. If you want a teen drama there are plenty of actual teenaged heroes to work with.
Stargirl, Robin, Teen Titans, The Blue Beetle. Supergirl. Heck that way you could have the adult counterparts show up from time to time.
This concept is more Wonder Girl than Wonder Woman.

I swear, except for Batman, DC has absolutely no fucking idea how to adapt it's superheroes for TV/movies.

And yeah, what's with all the stupid names? Why not their actual superhero names?

As much as we all like to believe that superheroes are now super-cool, and totally accepted because of the success of superhero movies, the truth is: they're not.

I'm sorry, but most people who'd go to the movies, even like stuff like Batman or the Avengers would never sit down every week for a superhero series. That's still way too geeky for them.

You may not like it, but making changes to the characters like this and putting them in shows like Smallville or Arrow is helping bringing people into accepting comics and superheroes. It takes a long time, but we're slowly getting there.

Don't like what they're doing to a character you like? Good, because this show was never intended for you, the hardcore fan. Tough, but that's how it works.

People want their superheroes in soap opera relationship drama instead of action based perilous drama?
    Eh. I'm not surprised.

The Azzarello/Chiang Wonder Woman is cleavage free and I don't remember seeing a single "ass shot," and it's quite well-received, especially for a New 52 book. I'd say that's the direction they should be headed on the big screen.

This "Amazon" sounds quite a bit like Catwoman...Halle Berry's Catwoman.

    Still Diana apparently:
Calling the show Arrow or Amazon, not referring to them as Green Arrow or Wonder Woman, making the characters more grounded in reality for the sake of a wide audience, all makes sense. Changing the character's name would NOT have made any sense at all. Clark and Ollie are still Clark and Ollie. Changing her name from Diani to Iris would have been change for the sake of change, which is never good. That said, it doesn't really matter, as the update to the article states, Iris was just a casting codename.

Can't say that I would actually follow a show based on Wonder Woman, but if they actually get something started, I'll give it a chance. Though I still think they should just do a movie instead...

Maybe they should get a better name for the series. Most people will think it is a show about the website.

I'm hoping for eBay the series.

    Good one

Though the way Hollywood is going I could see that happening.
We have a movie based on Monopoly planned.

Come on... please be Michelle Rodriguez... i don't care if she's probably too short, not white, and maybe a bit older then they want her to be. I just think her as wonder woman, would be awesome. :lol

^ then you can make Linda Carter her mom!

Smallville had its ups and downs, but was often great. Arrow has been very good so far, imo. Both made changes from the comic runs of their time, but in both cases, some of the changes were improvements.

Watch the pilot of Arrow and then read the current Green Arrow issue #0 and then tell me which one you think is a better, more compelling premise for a series with more interesting characters. THAT'S RIGHT.

I have nothing against a show featuring a younger Diana with drama elements. If they aren't going to set the series in WW2, then anything else is equally divergent to the source material, and I'm equally open to it. It's not like what they are describing for the tv series is really any further from the original vision than Azarello's current comic series is.

Still sounds like a better version of the character then that failed NBC show that they were going to try and do.
