You must be joking. That game was an absolute turd. WFC is class! Oh well. I think there is huge scope for a Transformers MMO. The possibilities are near limitless. Yes, you would need major customisation. The ability to genuinely hide amongst the scenery, maybe a worldwide stats based war between the Autobots and Decepticons. Other things to consider. - Gestalt modes with other players. - Sub faction creation. This could replace "clans" - Character development. - Ongoing battles in Space as well as Earth. - Players can earn temporary bonuses like say, a week as a citybot or something. Or NPC minions. - Character class diversity. Scientists can create weapons and upgrades for their faction after gaining the right experience for instance. etc. ...and on and on..... Like I say. The possibilities are endless.
I think this is a great partnership. I'm hoping it turns out like Runescape (post the 3D overhaul), or Pocket Legends. A browser based MMO that's F2P with P2P options/add-ons/quests/etc. Then they can extend it to iOS/Android/WebOS devices so people can take it on the go with them or play on their tablets. I think that is a smarter plan then to make a "full" MMO game which would then have to go against the juggernaut that is WoW. We'd need something on the level of Old Republic to even compete, and even that game with the Star Wars name behind it may not be able to dethrone WoW.
I think a seriously luxurious Transformer MMO would piss all over WOW. Sure you're a level 47 Night Elf carpenter with the Epic Coping saw of Ultimate Virtue, but can you transform into an Apache Gunship and murder innocent civilians before some do gooders who might be disguised as Lamborghinis turn up to fight you? No, I thought not.
I think you're missing the power of Blizzard Fans. You're talking about a group that bought the Starcraft 2 Collector's Ed. just for the WoW pet. Or full booster boxes of CCG cards they don't play just to get the one with the special item code on them. Trust me, I'm a former WoW junky, and it's really, really hard to pull away. This way, they make their own niche, and that's got staying power, just like how EVE Online has stayed around all these years.
Dont get me wrong, I did my time on WOW and EVE (possibly the best game ever) and I had to uninstall both because they were sapping my time (I'm a touring musician and didnt really have it). I just think a transformers MMO has more to offer. Then again, I love TF so I would say that.
If they give a Transformers MMO a serious shot, with the proper funding, I think it can be the best on the market. The Transformer universe is a fantastic setting with two rich factions that would be quite compelling. I'll remain optimistic until I have reason to believe otherwise.
It is totally possible to play an MMO on a limited schedule, just don't expect to be competitive in any area of endgame. I quit wow because it was becoming like a second job. Three nights of main toon raiding, two nights of alt toon raiding and two nights of mat farming/PvP just to try and keep a single toon competitive and one toon barely good enough...it was too much.
WOW is just too big to try and compete head on with. Even if WOW decided to make it the worst game ever it would literally take years for the player base to dwindle to a level where someone can compete with them. for an MMO to survive it has to find a separate niche.
Kotaku, the Gamer kotaku Article. Personally I just don't see Jagex having what it takes to pull off a AAA premium MMORPG, let alone one based on Transformers.
now us wreckers can have something to play! i will get this, i can't stand WoW, but i have always wanted to play a transformers MMO, so i will give this a shot
I guess this will be the deal to sell me on PC gaming. A MMO, in PRIME universe. I'm truly giddy with anticipation. .
Based on the Prime universe? Why am I so disappointed? Prime isn't bad at all, but YOU KNOW the game will drop the ball continuity-wise and made countless contradictions with the cartoons. They should make a new continuity for this MMO so it actually has a chance of building an interesting and solid setting and lore.
Was very interested with this mmo until I read that it is based on the prime continuity. I think it's "ok", but rather wanted it to be based on an updated G1. But that's just the g1-fan in my head screaming . Hope the game will be good for the fans out there!
