Hey Guys i have a few questions. I've always been a fan of the cartoons and now the movies and I had a few toys as a kid but I'm not a collector now. If you were me where would you start your collection. Take into account not wanting to spend vast amounts of money on the off chance that I find myself not enjoying collecting. Thanks in advance.
Not very. Most, if not all, figures are still listed as in stock on hasbrotoyshop.com for retail price (cheaper than retail prices for RotF figures by a little bit).
10 for deluxes, 21 I think for Voyagers, and I just checked the website and prices for Leader class figures are down a bit, to $39.99.
Animated is indeed good place to start if the aesthetic works for you. Next best bet would be the current/recent lines - RoTF and Universe. What I've learned when I started collecting seriously few years back is that having an idea of how you'd like your collection to be helps tremendously. Don't just go out and buy everything under the sun just coz they're available. With that said, discover your own collection and don't be shy to ask questions, all the best!
Im pretty sure walmart.com still has both leader bulkhead and megatron for around 24 each, if not, just bulkhead.
Hey BILLr0y, welcome to the wonderful world of transformers collecting. I sent you a pm about some of you questioning, animated really is a great place to begin collecting. And if you're a fan of the movies, then rotf is a perfect place also. Anyway, good luck to you!
Yea, look for clearence sales at the larger chains. Got a Animated Shadowblade Leader Megs from Target not long ago for $20. If you look hard enough you should still find some Universe figures on the shelves to, maybe even on sale. The Alternity line is just starting, but you have to buy them online but they are really hard to beat. From the movie, HA BB is an excellent choice. Check out some of the collections in the collection showcase. I always find them inspiring.
You say you had some "as a kid" - in the 1980s? I'd recommend perhaps the recent Universe/Classics line. Old characters with modern aesthetic/transformations - still available at retail. Alternatively, if you have any favourite characters (from any series/movies) why not start with them? Loads of figures can be found on ebay for less than retail.
This! Universe classics is my personal favorite. And its highly addicting. Check the resources section here and browse around. See what ya like.
