*Updated - new design* Targetmaster Blo

    Hi guys,

been away from tfw for an age now it feels like, won't bore with too many details, other than, I got married, moved 200 miles away, changed jobs, had family issues and many other things in between. So sorry if people had asked me things and I had just vanished, but sometimes life gets in way :(

    But, onto this!

I've been slowly working my way round sketch up, and created a little thing that I need some advice from proper dudes ;)

I have been building targetmasters in sketch up, and finally got one good enough to show you guys!

Based on Blowpipe, i've tried to create an updated, ball jointed version - but would love some comms and crits - like if this were available on shapeways - would it need to be broken into each section? - it's currently working out about $15 in white strong & flexible polished

I'll put a link when I can get it working properly!

    Help!

    *update*

Been working on another design...did anyone say Galvatron?!

Again, a first draft but yeah!

Got the sprue working! (minor tiny tiny issues - but not much!)

and the new version vs. the old

hey! so as for this fig, I'm curious at size. cause those ball joints look TINY! smallest id recommend for shape ways is 3mm. and just for asthetics, not sure if thats what you were going for but he looks way out of a normal target master proportions. huge wide torso, skinny arms and legs.

oh and as for separating, yeah you'll want to separate all the pieces, then make a type of sprue to attach each one together so its technically 1 part. shape ways charges per part now.
so just take a look at a model kit sprue and go by that. and your sprue connections (if you make them cylinders) should be at least 1.5mm but i like to go with about 2mm so they shape ways doesn't reject it saying "they will break"

hope this helps! and welcome back :D

That helps loads! Thanks so much!

Yeah I thought it may be too tiny, I worked real hard on the proportions but it does look a little wide now I re- look at it, I mean on the shape ways checker, it didn't have a problem with the wall thickness etc, but I'm more inclined to believe the guys who have been doing it!

How would you approach it if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah, shapeways is serious about those 2mm sprues nowadays.

Shapeways has a little tutorial on balljointed figures, btw. I've been too much of a wimp to try balljoints, myself, but that might help.

Also, any gaps under .5mm can end up "fused" shut, which might be something to keep in mind on that face.

It looks like a lot of fun! Keep it up!

Ah that's so cool - thanks for linking me! I'm not going to lie I'm first and foremost a 2D graphic and animation design person, but I keep meaning to explore 3D more so this gives me a great opportunity! I'm going to redo this little guy and get it back up

Right, first off thanks for your comments guys - really helped me!

I've had another look at it and rebuilt it from scratch!

I think i've got the proportions right now (fingers crossed!)

and it's all of a size that should be fine regarding tolerances etc.

Love to hear some feedback though as you guys are ace!

...forgot to say as well, rather than stick a huge plug on his chest, the 5mm port actually becomes Blo's gun! so it fits snug in his chest when in gun mode, and neatly in his hand during robot mode!

Very clever on the peg becoming the gun! This looks a lot more proportional.

(His pecs might be just a tad too robust, though, at least with so much cleavage between them. Maybe that's just me, though...)

Guess I'm more of a boob man then haha!

But no, I get you, but this means it's actually really simple to change into a few different characters - it'll be a scream ;)
