The specific use of the word lore in the statement rather then film or screen makes me think that it's something entirely new rather then Old Republic or something similar.

I can't really think of what that might be considering that anything even vaguely mentioned or established by the first 6 movies has already been mined by other mediums, maybe some other cluster of civilisation on the other side of the Unknown Regions?

Yeah, if it's not that, I really don't know what else they can make a whole trilogy with.

Anyway, this will be the big test for Disney's LucasFilm -- the Saga/Episodic films will likely always do well, and a few stand-alone movies here and there, aren't big risks, but a whole new trilogy is a completely different beast...

Please leave Jedi and the Force out of it.

I've always wanted a underworld movie, focusing on the criminal elements of the Star Wars Universe, but I don't think that needs to be a trilogy...

Rian Johnson's name has me excited, because the dude clearly has a passion for Star Wars (and Disney must be veeeeery confident about The Last Jedi to put him in charge of the new trilogy). Also having it explicitly unconnected to the Skywalker Saga is an extremely good sign.

Jedi maybe, but if we're telling a major narrative within the Star Wars universe, I think the Force should definitely be in it to some degree, as it is an integral and fundamental aspect of this universe. Star Wars stories since the canon reboot have been heavily emphasizing the point that the Force encompasses many beliefs and traits beyond just Light Side/Jedi and Dark Side/Sith, so there's still plenty of room to explore the concept in new ways.

Seriously. I've always said I want a heist/Mob/BH/Underworld movie that just happens to be set on Nar Shadda.

Very interesting. Of course, if The Last Jedi ends up sucking then Lucasfilm may change their minds on this new trilogy. Hopefully, that won't be the case.

I mean, I love Rian Johnson, great director... but man, Star Wars oversaturation is already hitting imo. This is kinda nuts.

Can't do it. The jedi are Star Wars. You won't see a mainstream Star Wars movie that doesn't have a lightsaber in it.

I'm with you -- I first fell in love with Nar Shaddaa in the old Dark Empire comics, by Dark Horse. Would love to see it, and Nal Hutta too.

aw yea, Kyle Katarn's saga. He comes in, and kicks all the current trilogy's characters' asses for being so boring. YAY! finally. Dreams do come true.

I liked Kyle Katarn... until they made him into a Jedi too.

    Dark Forces > Jedi Knight.

And then they made him not a Jedi anymore in Outcast. And then you take him to the evil side, and still be good. Thanks to those powers.

But, if not him, can we have Dash Rendar instead? how about they team up to kick all their asses instead?

    It's never dead to me.

    Same.

Until it isn't. They've already introduced a couple of former "EU" characters into current canon.

Dash Rendar sucks. He was a convenient Not-Han Solo, with his very own Not-Millennium Falcon, brought into a story while actual Han was frozen in carbonite.

(But I bought all of the Shadows of the Empire merchandise, like a chump, so joke's on me)

And yet I still like him better than any of the characters Disney has created.
