It is basically one scene in IDW's comics, where Impactor was a friend of Megatron before the war, when they both were still miners.

 

That doesn't seem very significant. I might flip Impactor from this set and keep Mirage and Aragon.

 

If you're serious about that, I'd be interested in taking that Impactor

That head looks so much better than the single-pack release. I didn't catch before that the head was new.

Now... someone remind me again why he's a Decepticon? Is there a precedent in fiction for that?

In both Marvel (UK) and IDW, he used to be the original leader of the Wreckers, the elite and rather "dirty dozen" type commando unit of the Autobot. He died at the end of an epic time-travel story where Galvatron came back from the 1986 movie's future to kill Unicron in the past, then later came back as a zombie and sacrificed himself again... Target 2006 - Read it. One of Furman's early gems.

Eh, not crazy about it. The mainline release's head is based on the Marvel G1 design -which the rest of the body also follows. This is still a nice head - a bit Animated/Prime style with lack of a nose - but for me Impactor remains mostly the G1 character, even if I like the IDW version too, upon which design this head is based on.
Still it is nice of Hasbro to make both versions available. Now I can finally get rid of that FoC Onslaught remold...

The standard release Impactor seems just so bland compared to the Decepticon Impctor. They should haverevealed the three pack after standard Impactor was released. I think this wilo hinder the sales of Autobot Impactor.
