You do you. I mix and match my entire collection based off of my own in-head canon and I'm sure to anyone but me the story and display choices don't make much sense. But that's how I have them and play with them.  

Honestly, I can't wait until I can play and display Volcanicus against Predaking. That's going to be lit.

How many upgrade sets do people need to waste money on before they realize they should have just purchased a different Predaking?

 

Sometimes people like to support the IP holder. Also, sometimes 3rd party can equally get it wrong with horrible proportions, unnecessary/ugly detailing, or their own qc issues that result in a floppy mess.

Many 3rd party companies also release their own Upgrade kits, (glares at TFC) Even Feral Rex, arguably the most popular 3rd party combiner, has Upgrade kits. Which hugely improves the figures. However in TFC's case they release them at stupid prices. I'd much rather pay for Perfect effects kits on official products, if i decide they are needed.

 

Exactly, this Predaking even with his flaws is an official product, and has a very neat engineering.
I would like to see more combiners where the limbs share some of the burden of combining. This figure is not perfect but it is a step in right direction.
I hope that in a few years this would get better.

 

There's a pre-order offers in my country. Price is around equivalent of 3 Leader Class toys at minimum.

 

this looks ok, but I think it looks kinda cheap compared to the original set.

My guess - one set w/new combiner hands, the sword, maybe some individual weapons; one set with bigger wings, maybe bigger shoulder cannons, maybe new shoulders to bulk him up a bit. I'm not saying he necessarily needs all of those things, just that that's what I think they'll do.

 

Yes, I had the same issue with the TFC Toys Hercules. For how much I paid for that I expected a better figure but instead I have a top heavy mess with bad elbows and one arm doesn't fit onto the shoulder peg very well and NOW he ain't worth anything like I paid because everyone wants the official figure instead I pay nearly $600 for it and I'd be lucky to sell the set for $200. I bought the UW version of Devastator and I am not feeling bad about THAT purchase at all. I'll be getting this and hoping for just a few 3P upgrades to fix some minor issues I have.

 

I\'m not bashing on this set, for sure I would still get it. I just wished that Hasbro treated Volcanicus the same way, or at the very least, gave the Dinobots the Titan Class treatment versus this set. Dinobots were meant to be more menacing than Predacons in both G1 cartoon and Comics. Even in the Earth Wars game, they pit these two as to almost the same scale. Dinosaurs are smaller than a lion, a bird, a bull, a cougar and a rhino? It is almost power scaling in Dragon Ball. 

 

I'm assuming Predaking was selected because of the wing pack. They decided the only way to do it right was as a set of Voyagers rather than a standard retail release of 4 Deluxes/1 Voyager.

 

The only upgrade set I'm interested in for this figure(s), would be a weapon set. Individual swords (I have a combined mode sword already) and maybe guns for the leg bots, or all the bots, I'm not fussed.

 

It is my hope that Onyx Prime is released with a pretender shell as a normal Prime Master as well. The fact the Predaking box has "Special Edition" all around Onyx Prime makes me a bit more confident he will see regular release, with a pretender shell, as a normal edition (probably with different colors).

 

What shell though?
