Look at Michael Bay in the first clip. He's like a little kid in a gun shop. Just because their car isn't on set doesn't mean they aren't in this scene. They're giant fighting robots. They're likely in robot mode.

Bitching season about the robot designs was 3 years ago. Time to move on.

Yeah, until this is actually seen we have no idea which character is there at all. Obviously, if they are in bot mode they are not on set. Course, I haven't seen any giant Optimus Prime head on a stick for anyone to react to.

That part did make me laugh. He looked like he was having way too much fun. :lol

That's actually a very good point. The fact we don't see the Prime truck on set is probably likely because Optimus will be in robot mode for most of this battle.

And they had poisoned darts, yeah, but still a few hundred conquistadors conquered a WHOLE NATION with much less losses then their enemies. Meaning, sure, us humans would get some lucky shots (like Will Smith making that saucer crash in Independence Day) but in the end, we wouldn't stand a chance.

History proves otherwise. A superior technology always beats the lesser advanced one, though only if they go for total annihilation. (I mean, if the USA wanted Iraq erased completely, they could have done it with the push of a button. Imagine what alien robots who have been at war for millions of years would be capable of.)

I respect your opinion. I dislike unbeatable aliens mostly myself in certain sci-fi as it makes for melodramatic movies, but for me it is absolutely necessary in Transformers, because these comics/movies are about two factions of alien robots. Not us humans. We are just the setting, the background to show the scale of the war (and add a few characters to the cast) - we should not overshadow the main stars. How would people have liked if the Batman movies were about the competent Gotham police force taking down the Joker while Batman just captures pimps and streetside drug dealers?

Which is why it should not really affect them. It's an outdated thing. It'd be like taking an old forward-loading musket into a gunfight where people use uzis and sniper rifles. You couldn't even get close enough to aim well...

I'll again agree, the way the current moves have handled it is not perfect. I too would like to see the bots get more screen time, but what everyone has to keep in mind here is these are Live Action films. So you kind of have to have a part of it be about the human side of the story. That's just the way this genre works. Like action = Live actors. Even in a heavy CG animated film like Avatar, there are a good number of live action scenes folowing the human characters.

Also, I think a lot of fans like to conveniently forget that the whole relationship between the Transformers and humans was a concept that the whole fiction started on, and is exactly what makes a great idea for a live action film. It also makes sense that we would not just sit by and watch these robots fight, we would be fighting alongside and against them.

Ok, when I said they were useing that tech for eons, I was assuming. The main point, and concept here, is that the weapons the Cybertronains are currently useing in the films are on the same level as incendiary rounds.
And again, there is no good reason why we should not be able to effect them in battle. It is complete BS to assume we don't have the power to fight back, just because they're more powerful!

I wish I could say I respect that opinion, but to be completely honest here, I don't. I just can't get behind the fan mentality of f#$% the humans, they're weak and primitive. Fact, I hate that mentality period, in any fiction. I'm sorry, but that's just how I feel about it.
It is much more interesting to me to see the little guy have a fighting chance.

Thanks for explaining that to him. I'm so tired of all these people on here complaining about Bay not knowing what he's doing and then sucking the James Cameron sac like he's god. Avatar wasn't a world beater people. Cameron's best work still lies in the 80s.

Hell the only thing separating Bay from being like Cameron is the fact that someone never taught Bay how to edit films. If he edited as well as he does other stuff, he'd be incredible.

General Custard would like a word with you.

Yet I understand. I wish the Cons were more of a crushing force. But let's be honest (here's comes funny example) I'm a pretty good martial artist. I'm fast, reasonably strong, and have above average technique. I know I would beat the pants off of a 7 year old that knows martial arts... I'm more experienced, have more power. I'd outclass him in everyway. Now if I'm fighting 20 7 year old martial artists at once, my chances decrease. Now let's say it's 40 to 1. Even tho I'm bigger and stronger, they can wear me down and overcome my superior technique, experience and strength. The Cons are fighting perhaps 40 (or more) to one odds, not to mention getting assistance from the Cons equals. Also, so far in the movies, they aren't organized at all, while it seems like the humans are organizing and making battle plans. Even tho I don't like the Cons not looking like they're doing much, it kind of speaks to their toughness.

Hopefully Shockwave will act as a military strategist and we will see some cities wiped out and some Autobot Alliance losses. I'll be honest in saying that I'll probably still like it, but I'll be pretty disappointed if the Cons don't do some real damage in this movie (on screen).

Yeah thanks for explaining that to me.

The artists who work on the TF movies get it right -- compare any scene where there is a CGI explosion (TF2: buildings hit by incoming TFs from space; aircraft carrier destruction for example) vs. any explosion that was shot live with CGI layered in (opening scene in TF2 where Demolishor transforms, slams his arms down hard, and all of a sudden theres a distinctly staged set of sand explosions coming up from under his claws--WTF?). Point is, it looks really fake using 'fireworks' type of pyro vs. a straight up giant drum of gasoline.

Go watch any of the pyro explosions from the TF movies, where there are long trails of sparkly fireworks like you see at Disneyland coming out from every angle -- then watch Terminator 2 or Aliens. Like you said, Cameron's best work wasn't necessarily Avatar.

But Bay's work looks like fan-made Youtube shit by comparison. (very wealthy fans with unlimited budget, I will concede)

All that aside, I cannot fucking WAIT for TF3. I was one of the few who liked 2 more than the first. I guess I'm just able to let the details wash over and really settle in to the movie. Fireworks or not, it won't really matter once I got that popcorn on opening day. :D

I notice Optimus is not with that group of Car-bots - so one explanation is that Ironhide and Optimus & Jolt approach from another direction or are elsewhere.

It might be Shockwave or Soundwave attacking the humans / flipping the cars and Optimus might be fighting Megatron some place else.

I get the feeling there's two scrabbles happening at the same time or close together one near the river and one deeper in the city.

If anyone's got a savable version of that video i'd appreciate it as i'd like to keep it to compare to the final version in the future.

I think there's a player than can save You tube videos but I don't know if you can do it in a browser.

If anyone knows of a version in a sensible format please let me know.

There's a site called media convert that can convert files to common formats including video codexs and will hold it on their server for 24 hours if that works for anyone to do that.

I'm not saying the show should concentrate on the TFs alone. There need to be a few well-established human characters - like Quaritch, Grace, Parker, Norm in Avatar. However in the Bayverse, they went overboard in the 2007-2009 movies, precious screentime is wasted on Sam's parents, on college life, on Simmon's weird ways, and on the idiotic and unnecessary characters put there just for a quick laugh which could have been spent on the robots. If I wanted to see such scenes, I'd watch American Pie (shudder).

As for saving on CGI - that's utterly simple. They are TRANSFORMERS. Have them interact with each other and humans in vehicle mode. Worked well for Knight Rider, no?

To each his own... for me, it was always a great moment in the Marvel comics when Megatron demonstrates the futility of the human resistance by simply walking out in front of his fortress, have the military unleash everything at him, then just smirking and walking back. He is not on Earth to conquer it but to get resources to travel back, and doesn't even wants to waste energy on fighting us... Which should have been the same in the Bayverse, as the Cons are only here for the Allspark.
Another moment I love is when Shockwave tells the military who open fire at him: "Do you really think your puny weapons can pierce my armor? If a lesson in fourth order tensile strenght coefficients of nuclear hardened steel could make you realize the futility of your actions, I would instruct you - but the only thing that primitive minds like yours understand is raw power!"
The notion that in the Bayverse, the TFs are composed of the same materials earth vehicles are, or that they are using simple earth machine guns and rockets, is just ridiculous. At least in the 2. film they started using energy weapons, as they should have.
