    I don't think Bay hates it, it's just very difficult for someone wearing a faceplate constantly to convey emotions, and thus it makes it difficult for the audience to empathise with the character.

    I don't think it's that bad, think about it, if prime was constantly wearing the faceplate, do you think we could've imagined a scene where he gets thrown to the ground and then spits out a piece of metal (Autobot teeth?) as if to say, "bring on round two!" It's totally badass!
