War for the Planet of the Apes was my favorite movie of 2017. It ended the trilogy perfectly. I really hope that this is a reboot and they don't try to continue that story, especially considering that Matt Reeves does not appear to be involved.

Considering how revered the Wyatt/Reeves trilogy is, not to mention how recent and still current it is, I don't see the rationale for yet another new one A) at all, or B) so soon. Seems very unnecessary.

Yeah, personally, I think this is way too soon. But, I’m also not at all surprised. There are new overlords in charge now, and they expect to use those FOX IPs to make money for the Mouse.

Having said that, I have always wanted to see a version of Planet of the Apes that more resembles the advanced civilization of the novel. I don’t know if this will be that. I don’t know if I even want them to try for that, if they’re giving this to this Maze Runner dude.

I really don't want this to be a thing. This announcement does not surprise me though

I would actually rather is be a continuation of the trilogy. That story was awesome. Seeing familiar characters enter into a new chapter would be cool.

Wouldn't this essentially be a remake of the first movie, but based off the continuity of the recent reboot/prequel trilogy?

With Fox's properties under Disney's umbrella now, I wouldn't be shocked if that's what they ended up doing. Especially since "Rise" already laid the groundwork for it with the references to the Icarus's launch and subsequent disappearance.

I prefer for it to be a continuation of the trilogy instead of another astronaut crashing on earth in the future like Charlton Heston and Mark Walberg. I found out the Planet Of The Apes TV series from the mid 70's is showing on MeTV.

I'm happy to see that some of the creative team from the previous films are returning. I'm optimistic, as Toy Story 4 showed (to me at least, this may be an unpopular opinion) that you can continue a story that had a satisfying ending.

I don't have much faith in Disney these days and the previous Planet of the Apes trilogy was so solid that this series would have big shoes to fill.

While I'm not opposed to a more traditional revival of the series, I'm skeptical.

Agreed. I also MUCH preferred more natural apes to the ape people of the classic franchise to be honest.
