We have seen these before, around SDCC.

 

We saw that they existed, but at the time we thought you'd have to buy the set *and* chase down the 5th member to make the gestalts. Also: we have not seen the packaging previously, as far as I remember.

 

Packaging was seen (and reported on) back when the listings first went up last month.

Also it was never the case that you would need to hunt down the fifth member, right from the outset it was stated the four in the box were all that was needed. Official pictures released at SDCC confirmed this months ago.

Fandom speculation was there would be a way to include the fifth guy as a part of a bigger combiner, not that it was needed to make the combiner happen in the first place.
