    This is fantastic news, the Masterpiece line is picking up speed and becoming ambitious and spontaneous again.

    I won’t be purchasing the trainbots and it’s very unlikely I’ll get Jetfire but man am I excited to see what TakaraTomy cook up.
    Will use the period as a nice breather to appreciate from afar and grab some reissues I missed.

    Bring on the Soundwave/Rodimus V2 or Galvatron release soon please TT.

    Man this sucker’s gonna be slathered in white paint. I’m slightly nervous but also really excited. I’m also looking forward to seeing how Spike and Sparkplug will fit in his hands, a la Fire In The Sky.

    And not just MP only either. Literally EVERY Transformer (and other toys as well) have an overpriced MSRP, only to be available on shelves for around 30% less. Every deluxe/voyager/leader etc are available to the general shopping audience for well under MSRP.

    @octobotimus seems to be approaching pricing from an American perspective, not taking into account how things work here in Japan. I hope you'll be able to travel here one day and enjoy our affordable Masterpieces on store shelves :)

    I know some people say it looks great but I still think Skyfire looks too far off from the toon model for the current of MP line. I think Skyfire should look more like the image on the left than what Takara has shown on the right.

    Fyi.....Mp44 is pretty much on sale now even on Japanese second hand toy websites like Jungle Collectors Shop International and Mandarake. Go ahead and check out first before you spout more BS. :)

    Alright this is kind of superfluous because the other digibashes were so good but I couldn't help myself doing a quick one...I tried to straighten out the page curl distortion (didn't do a great job) and de-screened the moire pattern as best I could. Thought about replacing MP-10 with MP-44 but I'm tired :lol

    I really hope this is like Starscream where the first grey Proto was really simplified and didn’t have final, exact proportions... because this Skyfire looks awful to me so far. :x

    Cool, Deluxe class shatter and soundwave from studio series were $13 bucks on amazon a bit ago, doesn't change the fact they each released at $20, as in the MSRP. They are still $20 figures.

    Good thing it wasn't the block prototype that released first for Megatron http://clskywlkr.blogspot.com/2017/04/mp-36-megatron-review.html

    I got mine cheaper too. MSRP, the S part meaning "suggested".

    It is. It's written in the accompanying text. It's just for us to get an idea of the size.

    The thing is though, you're conflating Hasbro and TakaraTomy. They are two different companies with very different business strategies.

    TakaraTomy inflates their MSRPs, so that they can be sold for lower in stores and create a sense of benefit for the customer.

    TakaraTomy MSRPs for deluxe, voyager and leader class are $30, $50 and $70 respectively, but that is not what they cost in stores here in Japan.

    So, again:
    Japan=/=USA
    TakaraTomy=/=Hasbro

    When the complexities of reality don't support his narrative, he ain't gonna listen. A bit like flat earthers. :)

    That is a far more fair argument than just saying it's not a real price. I am curious to find out, do retail stores over there sell them lower than MSRP? Like the equivalents to targets and walmarts and such. I generally assumed they would follow MSRP’s like they do here.

    Didn't know you thought it was flat.

    Yep, regular toy & electronic stores sell them for below as well, so your average Joe here wouldn't be paying MSRP.

    I don't pay enough attention to other toy companies to know if they have similar strategies but I reckon it's probably fairly commonplace.
